Today I will share with you… • Results of the 2012-13 Annual Climate and Satisfaction Survey • Background: • Survey Specifics: • Why • When administered • What the survey measures • How to interpret the report and results • Next steps to connect results with actions to improve climate and satisfaction at our schools

  3. Why the Survey was Administered • The Climate and Satisfaction Survey invited all staff and families, as well as students in grades 5 through 12 to respond to an online questionnaire about their schools: • Alignment with District Accountability Plan Priority 3 • Understand what members of our school community think about the learning environment at our schools. • Initiate data-based conversations among all members of the school community to transform current practices on behalf of our students.

  4. When the Survey Took Place The 2012-13 Annual Climate and Satisfaction Survey was administered between March 28 and May 31, 2013.

  5. What the Survey Measured • Responses from three distinct groups of people: • Students in grades 5-12 enrolled in Bloomfield Schools • Families • All Staff • Responses to similar questions in alignment with the District Accountability Plan: • Curriculum, Instruction and Assessment • Positive School Climate • Parent and Community Engagement

  7. Results *In 2011 certified staff were invited to participate in the survey. In 2012 all employees were invited to participate.

OVERALL STRENGTHS: Curriculum, Instruction and Assessment • Students: 77% responded favorably to all Curriculum, Instruction and Assessment questions • Families: 95% responded favorably to all Curriculum, Instruction and Assessment questions • Staff: 93% responded favorably to all Curriculum, Instruction and Assessment questions

  9. OVERALL STRENGTHS: Positive School Climate • Students: 67% responded favorably to all Safety and Climate questions • Families: 89% responded favorably to all Safety and Climate questions • Staff: 84% responded favorably to all Safety and Climate questions

  10. OVERALL STRENGTHS: Parent and Community Engagement • Students: 68% responded favorably to all Welcoming Schools questions • Families: 94% responded favorably to all Welcoming Schools questions • Staff: 94% responded favorably to all Welcoming Schools questions

  11. Observations / Implications • Students: 33% agreed that “In this school, getting good grades makes you popular.” • Families: 49% agreed that “In this school, getting good grades makes students popular.” • Staff: 44% agreed that “In this school, getting good grades makes students popular.”

  12. NEXT STEPS Principals will share survey results Results will be shared with all members of the school community; Effective participation practices will be replicated; The Climate Sub-committee of the District Data Team will meet to review the data and plan appropriate responses; In alignment with the District Climate Policy, the District Climate Steering Committee will meet to plan positive Climate events for schools and community as directed by the data from this annual survey.

  13. Results from this survey inform our actions toward continuous improvement, in alignment with our District Accountability Plan.
