2010-2011District Highlights Board members take oath; officers elected for 2011-12 Jesse G. Rodríguez, Place 5, Leon Leal, Place 6, and Jorge Rodríguez, Place 7, were given the Oath of Office at the May 23rd Board of Trustees meeting. All three trustees were unopposed in the May 14 election. The term for GCISD trustees is three years. Lisa Hall, Place 4, was elected as Board president for the 2011-2012 school year. Charlie Warner, Place 1, was elected to serve as Board vice president and JesseG. Rodríguez, Place 5, was elected as Boardsecretary.
2010-2011District Highlights High schools adopt new class schedule for 2011-12 year Beginning in August, GCISD will implement a high school schedule of seven class periods per day. The current A/B Block schedule, with its four classes per day, is being replaced with the seven-period schedule, plus 50 minutes for lunch. Each of the classes will be 50 minutes long, instead of the 90-minute classes under the current block schedule. First period will begin at 8:35 a.m. and the last period will end at 3:50 p.m. Starting and ending times for middle and elementary schools will be unchanged.
2010-2011District Highlights Top four students recognized for grade point average The four highest ranked students at Grapevine-Colleyville ISD’s two high schools have been named Valedictorians andSalutatorians of the Class of 2011. The Valedictorian is the student scholar with the highest grade point average for four years of high school. Salutatorian is the student with the second highest grade point average. At CHHS, Mahiuddin QuadirisValedictorian and NicholasNguyen isSalutatorian. At GHS, Abishek Kulshreshtha isValedictorian and Hillary Rosenjack is Salutatorian.
2010-2011District Highlights CMS student wins National Geographic Bee Colleyville Middle School 7th grader Tine Valencic claimed the title of 2011 National Geographic Bee Champion on Wednesday, May 25, in Washington, D.C. Valencic has won the Texas National Geographic Bee two times, including last year when he placed 13th nationwide. As this year’s champion, Tine receives a $25,000 college scholarship and a trip to the Galapagos Islands.
2010-2011District Highlights GCISD principal selected for state leadership program Tona Taylor, principal at CannonElementary School, has been to participate in CATALYST, an executive leadership program for K-12 principals whose vision is to create 21st Century schools across the state. Program participants are selected through a rigorous application process, based on their knowledge, skills and capabilities to improve the quality of education for students in Texas.
2010-2011District Highlights District provides summer meals for children The Nutrition Services department will provide free breakfast and lunch to students ages 18 and younger. Breakfast is offered from 7-8:30 a.m. and lunch is offered from 11 a.m.-12:30 p.m. at the following sites: Timberline Elementary: June 6-July 15 Cannon Elementary: June 6-June 29 Grapevine Middle: June 14-July 29 (M-Th) Cross Timbers Middle: June 6-August 5
