2010-2011District Highlights Board candidate filing begins Feb. 14; election set for May 14 GCISD’s Board of Trustees election has been set for May 14, 2011, with early voting May 2-14. Three-year terms expire for places 5, 6 and 7 of the Board of Trustees. Jesse Rodríguez serves in Place 5, Leon Leal currently serves in Place 6, and Jorge Rodríguez holds Place 7.
2010-2011District Highlights Community presentations set for proposed 2011 Bond Program All GCISD community members are invited to attend one of four presentations about the 2011 proposed Bond Program. The presentations will begin at 6 p.m. and will take place in the Student Activities Center at each of the District’s four middle schools. Dates and locations are: Feb. 8 – Grapevine Middle, Feb. 15 – Colleyville Middle, Feb. 22 – Heritage Middle, and March 7 – Cross Timbers Middle.
2010-2011District Highlights GCISD names new Deputy Superintendent The Grapevine Colleyville ISD Board of Trustees voted unanimously to name Melody Paschall as the District’s Deputy Superintendent.Paschall, who currently serves as Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction for Coppell ISD, brings 25 years of experience stemming from the classroom to campus administration to district-level leadership.
2010-2011District Highlights Five schools selected as “Higher Performing” Five GCISD schools have made the list of 2010 NationalCenter forEducational AchievementHigher PerformingSchools, formerly known as Just for the Kids HigherPerforming Schools. Colleyville Elementary, HeritageElementary, Timberline Elementary, Colleyville HeritageHigh and Grapevine High schools were named to the list for exhibiting outstanding performance across multiple grades and years.
2010-2011District Highlights CHHS teacher honored by UT alumni association Karen Knott, CHHS math teacher, has been selected as one of the 2011 honorees of the Texas EXES Awards forOutstanding Teachers. The honor recognizes educators who inspire and support their students, bring credit to the teaching profession and are held in the highest regard by their current and former students, fellow teachers, administrators, parents and community.
2010-2011District Highlights GHS athlete receives O’Brien scholarship Hillary Rosenjack, a senior at Grapevine High School, has been selected as the recipient of the Davey O’BrienHigh School Scholarship Award. The $20,000 scholarship is given to one exceptional senior student-athlete in the North Texas area. The selection was announced on Jan. 18 during the 4th Annual Davey O’Brien Scholarship Luncheon held at The Fort Worth Club. Recipients are chosen on the basis of scholastic achievements, leadership, community service and varsity sports participation.
2010-2011District Highlights All-State band and choir students selected Nine GCISDstudents have placed into the highly respected Texas All-State band and choir and will perform at the Texas Music Educators Association Conference in San Antonio later this month. Students selected for this honor are: Mixed Choir – Laura Bumgardner (CHHS); Mack Liening and Vanessa Todora (GHS) Band – Dean Dana, Abby Easterling, Grayson Gayle and Khyunghun Lee (CHHS); Teresa Gottfredson and Jordan Sakakeeny (GHS)
2010-2011District Highlights GHS students inducted into prestigious NASA program Four Grapevine High School students have been inducted into the prestigious NASA Aerospace ScholarsProgram. Joel McIntyre, Ryan McIntyre, AlecMirchandani and Kayla Shea were selected by their state legislator, based on their interest and aptitude in areas such as science, engineering, mathematics, and computer science. Students will participate in interactive online learning activities, as well as a residential, all expenses paid visit to NASA’s Johnson Space Center.
2010-2011District Highlights Founders Day honors past and present PTA leaders The annual GCISD Council of PTAs Founders Day luncheon will be at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Feb. 17 at the Colleyville Center. The luncheon recognizes the history of PTA as well as the valued contributions of its members.
