What is CIBER? Center for International Business Education & Research • 33 Federally-funded centers in the U.S. • Activities designed to: • Provide a rich array of international experiences to students • Contribute to our community’s understanding of international affairs • Initiatives on the following themes: • Government Policy • Emerging Markets • Global Entrepreneurship • Sustainability

Particulars • International partner universities (MBA Schools) in: Chile, Thailand and India • Teams comprise: 2-3 Smith and 2-3 international partner school students , plus Smith & international partner university faculty advisors • Mandatory activities: • International consulting boot camp, cross-cultural communication session and interaction with team members from partner universities • Travel in-country during Winter Break • Virtual team meetings August– December

Past Project Example: Tunisia • International Partner University: Mediterranean School of Business, Tunis • Client: AFAR ( which means “Best Deal” in Tunisian Arabic dialect) • AFAR is a start up company that offers the possibility of searching, booking, and buying a product at the lowest available price within a catalogue regularly updated by sellers, based on price comparison and availability. • AFAR has overcome the Tunisian banking system cap on online credit card payments by invoicing only a 10% down payment on purchases, thus making it the first mover and the first platform in Tunisia offering such services and overcoming the banking threshold limitations.
Potential Project in India • International Partner University: Birla Institute of Management Technology (BIMTECH), Pilani, India • POSSIBLE CLIENT: • Tea company • Objective: • Assist with growth strategy into additional Indian markets, as well as markets in Africa

Program Costs Fixed Costs • Study Abroad Fee $ 250 • Tuition for a 3 credit course $ 4,275 (or $5,085) • Int’l Travel Insurance $ 20/week Variable Costs • International Airfare to Host Country ~$ 1,100 - $2,000 • Some in-country meals ~$ 300 TOTAL = ~$5,985 (or $7,695)
