  1. HEALTH REFORM AND THE LATTER RAIN DRUGS VS NATURAL REMEDIES

  2. John:1:1-4, “ In the beginning was the word and the word was with GOD and the word was GOD. • 2 . The same was in the beginning with GOD . • 3 . All things were made by him and without him was not anything made that was made. • 4 . In him was life ; and the life was the light of men.

  3. John:8:12 “ Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying , I am the light of the world; he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life.” • John:10:10 “…….. I am come that they might have life and have it more abundantly.” • John6:63 “……The words that I speak unto you they are spirit and they are life.”

  4. JESUS CHRIST IS LIFE AND LIGHT !! • THE HEALTH MESSAGE + THE 3 ANGELS MESSAGE IS LIFE AND LIGHT, IT IS JESUS CHRIST REVEALED TO THIS WORLD!! • Any religion or denomination that does not have life and light does not have truth nor Jesus Christ. Creation and redemption is bound up in this combination.

  5. LAWS OF GOD = LAWS OF HEALTH • Psalms:119:73 “ Thy hands have made me and fashioned me; give me understanding, that I may learn thy commandments.” • There is a personal responsibility attached to being God’s children by creation and redemption ; which is to seek his wisdom and learn his laws that govern our life and being.

  6. our reasonable service. • Romans12:1, “I beseech you therefore brethren by the mercies of God that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy , acceptable unto God which is your reasonable service.” • Exo 15:26 And said, If thou wilt diligently hearken to the voice of the LORD thy God, and wilt do that which is right in his sight, and wilt give ear to his commandments, and keep all his statutes, I will put none of these diseases upon thee, which I have brought upon the Egyptians: for I am the LORD that healeth thee.

  7. RH,1895,no.25. “ Man was the crowning act In the creation of God, made in the image of God, and designed to be a counterpart of God………..Man is very dear to God , because he was formed in his own image. This fact should impress us with the importance of teaching by precept and example the sin of defiling, by the indulgence of appetite or by any other sinful practice , the body which is designed to represent God to the world.” • CT,pg.83. “ The health should be sacredly guarded as the character.”

  8. HL,pg11. “Our very bodies are not our own, to treat as we please, to cripple by habits that lead to decay, making it impossible to render to God perfect service. Our lives and all our faculties belong to him. He is caring for us every moment; he keeps the living machinery in action ; if we were left to run it for one moment, we should die. We are absolutely dependent upon God.” • Duty • HL,pg.13. “ It is our duty to study the laws that govern our being, and conform to them. Ignorance in these things is sin.”

  9. Suicide or Murder ? • James 4:17 “ therefore to him that knoweth to do good and doeth it not,to him it is sin” • Suicide by personal choice • Murder by example

  10. MM.volume2 pg216. “The Lord will not work a miracle to preserve any one in health who will not make an effort to obtain knowledge within his reach concerning this wonderful habitation that God has given. By the study of the human organism we are to learn to correct what may be wrong in our habits, and which , if left uncorrected, will bring the sure result, disease and suffering, that make life a burden.”

  11. UT.May19th,1897. “The transgression of physical law is transgression of God’s law . Our creator is Jesus Christ. He is the Author of our being. He is the author of the physical law as he is the author of the moral law. And the human being who is careless and reckless of the habits and practices that concern his physical life and health, sins against God. God is not reverenced, respected , or recognised. This is shown by the injury done to the body in violation of physical law.”

  12. NATURE’S LAWS AND NATURAL REMEDIES • True Remedies: • 5T.443. “ There are many ways of practicing the healing art, BUT THERE IS ONLY ONE WAY THAT HEAVEN APPROVES. God’s remedies are THE SIMPLE AGENCIES OF NATURE, that will not TAX OR DEBILLITATE (side effects) the system through their powerful properties. Pure Air and Water, Cleanliness a Proper Diet, Purity of Life, and a firm Trust in God, are the remedies for the want of which thousands are dying, yet these remedies are going out of date, because their skillfull use requires work that the people do not appreciate. • Fresh Air, Exercise, Pure Water, and clean sweet premises , are within the reach of all with BUT LITTLE EXPENSE ; but drugs are expensive , both in the out lay of means and the effect produced upon the system.

  13. THE LAWS OF HEALTH • MOH.127. “ Pure air , sunlight, abstemiousness , rest , exercise , Proper diet , the use of water , trust in divine power , these are the true remedies. • Letter 59,1898 ,Aug.29. “This is God’s method. The herbs that grow for the benefit of man; and the little handful of herbs kept and steeped and used for sudden ailments , have served tenfold better purposes , than all the drugs hidden under mysterious names and dealt out to the sick.” • MS.105.Aug. 26, 1898. “ The true method of healing the sick is to tell them of the herbs that grow for the benefit of man . scientist have attached large names to these simplest preparations, but true education will lead us to teach the sick that they need not call a doctor anymore than they would call a lawyer. They can themselves administer the simple herbs if necessary.”

  14. MS,65,1899. April 25. “ Our saviour is the restorer of the moral image in man. He has supplied in the natural world remedies for the ills of man, that his followers may have life and that they may have it more abundantly. We can with safety discard the concoctions which man has used in the past. THE LORD HAS PROVIDED ANTIDOTES FOR DISEASE IN SIMPLE PLANTS, and these can be used by faith with no denial of faith , FOR BY USING THE BLESSINGS PROVIDED BY GOD FOR OUR BENEFIT WE ARE COOPERATING WITH HIM. We can use water and sunshine and the herbs which he has caused to grow for healing maladies brought on by indiscretion.” • Psalms 104:14 “ He causeth the grass to grow for the cattle , and herb for the service of man, that he may bring forth food out of the earth.”

  15. CH pg.30 “In the saviours manner of healing there were lessons for his disciples. On one occasion he anointed the eyes of a blind man with clay and bade him, ‘go wash in the pool of siloam’…….. ‘he went his way therefore , and washed and came seeing’ John: 9: 7. The cure could be wrought only by the power of the great healer , yet Christ made use of the simple agencies of nature. While he did not give countenance to drug medication. He sanctioned the use of simple and natural remedies.”

  16. COL.pg. 63 “There is life in the seed there is power in the soil; but unless an infinite power is exercised day and night the seed will yield no returns . The showers of rain must be sent to give moisture to the thirsty fields, the sun must impart heat, electricity must be conveyed to the buried seed. The life which the creator has implanted, he alone can call forth. Every seed grows , every plant develops , by the power of God.” • DA. pg.367 “ In the production of the Earth’s harvest, God is working a miracle everyday. Through natural agencies the same work is accomplished that was wrought in the feeding of the five thousand .

  17. Definition of natural remedies: • The balanced and appropriate use of nature to heal , while obeying the laws of health. • Definition of disease: • MOH,pg. 126 “Disease is an effort of nature to free the system from conditions that result from a violation of the laws of health.” • Pro 26:2 As the bird by wandering, as the swallow by flying, so the curse causeless shall not come.

  18. God’s natural remedies = 10 laws of health • Pure Air. Aerotherapy • Sunlight. Heliotherapy • Abstemiousness. Temperance and Fasting (Balance) • Rest. Cellular regeneration • Exercise. Physiotherapy and Massage • Proper Diet. Dietotherapy • The use of Water. Hydrotherapy, Thassalotherapy • Trust in Divine Power. Faith, Surgery, Geotherapy, Gardening. • Cleanliness.   20. How do we use these 10 laws of health to bring healing ? • Psa 67:2 That thy way may be known upon earth, thy saving health among all nations. • Psa 103:3 Who forgiveth all thine iniquities; who healeth all thy diseases;

  21. MOH, pg,127. “ The only hope of better things is in the education of the people in right principles . Let physicians teach the people that restorative power is not in drugs , but in nature. Disease is an effort of Nature to free the system from conditions that result from a violation of the laws of health. In case of sickness, cause should be ascertained. Unhealthful conditions changed, wrong habits corrected. Then nature is to be assisted in her effort to expel impurities and to re-establish right conditions in the system.” • Ascertain cause RETRACE TO SOURCE!! • Change unhealthful conditions STOP!! • Correct wrong habits CHANGE!! • Assit nature to do 2 things.Expel impurities and Re-establish right conditions. REMOVE AND RESTORE!!

  22. ASCERTAIN THE CAUSE : RETRACE TO THE SOURCE :Psa 139:23 Search me, O God, and know my heart: try me, and know my thoughts: • Psa 139:24 And see if there be any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting. • CHANGE UNHEALTHFUL CONDITIONS : STOP !! Isa 1:16 Wash you, make you clean; put away the evil of your doings from before mine eyes; cease to do evil; • CORRECT WRONG HABITS : CHANGE:Isa 1:17 Learn to do well; seek judgment, relieve the oppressed, judge the fatherless, plead for the widow. Isa 1:19 If ye be willing and obedient, ye shall eat the good of the land: • ASSIST NATURE: REMOVE AND RESTORE: Psa 51:10 Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me. • Psa 51:11 Cast me not away from thy presence; and take not thy holy spirit from me.

  23. MOH, pg.125 “The true physician is an educator. He recognises his responsibility not only to the sick which are under his care , but also to the community in which he lives. He stands as a guardian of both physical and moral health. It is his endeavour not only to teach right methods for the treatment of the sick, but to encourage right habits of living, and to spread a knowledge of right principles.” • Right methods for the treatment of the sick. • Encourage right habits of living. • Spreads a knowledge of right principles.

  24. MOH,pg. 125 “Our artificial civilization is encouraging evils destructive of sound principles. Custom and fashion are at war with nature. The practices they enjoin, and the indulgences they foster, are steadily lessening both physical and mental strength, and bringing upon the race an intolerable burden.” • Custom. Habits, Societal Norms, Tradition, Culture • Fashion. Trends, Attitude, Practice, Style, System

  25. WHAT WARS AGAINST THE TRUTH ? • Unaccustomed to accept God’s Word exactly as it reads, or to allow it to be its own interpreter, they read it in the light of their maxims and traditions. So long had they neglected to study and contemplate the Bible that its pages were to them a mystery. They turned with aversion from the truth of God to the traditions of men. {CTr 226.3}

  26. MOH,pg. 127 “Every person should have a knowledge of nature’s remedial agencies and how to apply them. It is essential both to understand the principles involved in the treatment of the sick and to have a practical training that will enable one rightly to use this knowledge. The use of natural remedies requires an amount of care and effort that many are not willing to give. Nature’s process of healing and upbuilding is gradual, and to the impatient it seems slow. The surrender of hurtful indulgences requires sacrifice. But in the end it will be found that nature, untrammelled,(unconfined, unhindered or unrestained) does her workwisely and well. Those who persevere in the obedience to her laws will reap the reward in health of body and health of mind. • Using natural remedies require work. • The natural process of healing is gradual but sure. • Nature needs to be allowed to do its work without restraint.

  27. REQUIRES WORK • There are in the ministry many who are consumers and not producers. They have been bought with a price, and they should use in God's service the strength and energy that he has entrusted to them. God calls for sincere, earnest, persevering laborers. His delegated servants should look upon no work that he gives them as too taxing. Those who would be successful laborers in his cause must put to the tax brain and bone and muscle. {RH, April 21, 1903 par. 9}

  28. !!! A SURE PROMISE !!! • U.T,1888. “Nature will respond to God’s remedies.”

  29. DRUGS .VS. NATURAL REMEDIES • Definitions of drugs: • Dr.J.W . Graduate of LLU. “ All drugs are poisons, and they must be administered carefully” • The New American Desk Encyclopedia: pg379 • Drugs: Chemical agents that affect biological systems……….. • Many drugs are the same as or similar to chemicals occurring naturally in the body and are used either to replace the natural substances (eg. Thyroid hormone) when deficient or to induce effects that occur with abnormal concentrations as with steroids or oral contraceptives. Other agents are known to interfere with a specific mechanism or antagonise a normal process. • TabersCyclopedic Medical Dictionary: • Drugs: Any substance that when taken into a living organism, may modify one ormore of its functions.

  30. e.g.white statements on drugs. • Note: If similar conditions , situations, effects relating to drugs occur in our modern society , then the following statements are both relative to our time and even more forcefull now than then. • God designsed the body to heal itself. Natural Remedies work along with the body’s system and functions to restore and maintain health

  31. Pathology of Drugs • Many, instead of seeking to remove the poisonous matter from the system, take a more deadly poison into the system to remove a poison already there.--H. to L., Chap. 4, p. 64. {HL 243.1} • Mode of Action. Drugs never cure disease; they only change its form and location. . . . When drugs are introduced into the system, for a time they seem to have a beneficial effect. A change may take place, but the disease is not cured. It will manifest itself in some other form. . . . The disease which the drug was given to cure may disappear, but only to reappear in a new form, such as skin diseases, ulcers, painful, diseased joints, and sometimes in a more dangerous and deadly form. . . . Nature keeps struggling, and the patient suffers with different ailments, until there is a sudden breaking down in her efforts, and death follows.--H. to L., Chap. 3, p. 60. {HL 243.3}

  32. Every additional drug given to the patient . . . will complicate the case, and make the patient's recovery more hopeless. . . . An evil, simple in the beginning, which nature aroused herself to overcome, and which she would have done if left to herself, aided by the common blessings of Heaven, has been made tenfold worse by introducing drug poisons into the system, which cause of themselves a destructive disease, forcing into extraordinary action the remaining life forces to war against and overcome the drug intruder.--H. to L., Chap. 3, p. 57. {HL 243.4} • Sick people who take drugs do appear to get well. With some there is sufficient life force for nature to draw upon to so far expel the poison from the system that the sick, having a period of rest, recover. But no credit should be allowed the drugs taken, for they only hindered nature in her efforts. All the credit should be ascribed to nature's restorative powers.--H. to L., Chap. 3, p. 50. {HL 244.1}

  33. Results of Drug Medication • Drugging should be forever abandoned; for while it does not cure any malady, it enfeebles the system, making it more susceptible to disease.-- T., No. 32, p. 57. {HL 244.3} • There are more who die from the use of drugs than all who would have died of disease had nature been left to do her own work.--H. to L., Chap. 3, p. 61. • Medicine deranges nature's fine machinery, and breaks down the constitution. It kills, but never cures.--H. to L., Chap. 3, p. 57.

  34. The endless variety of medicines in the market, the numerous advertisements of new drugs and mixtures, all of which claim to do wonderful cures, kill hundreds where they benefit one. . . . Yet people keep dosing, and continue to grow weaker until they die. Some will have medicine at all events. Then let them take these hurtful mixtures and the various deadly poisons upon their own responsibility. God's servants should not administer medicines which they know will leave behind injurious effects upon the system, even if they do relieve present suffering.Every poisonous preparation in the vegetable and mineral kingdoms, taken into the system, will leave its wretched influence, affecting the liver and lungs, and deranging the system generally.--F. of F., p. 140. {HL 245.1}

  35. To use drugs while continuing evil habits is certainly inconsistent, and greatly dishonors God by dishonoring the body which he has made. Yet for all this, stimulants and drugs continue to be prescribed and freely used; while the hurtful indulgences that produce the disease are not discarded. The use of tea, coffee, tobacco, opium, wine, beer, and other stimulants gives nature a false support. Physicians should understand how to treat the sick through the use of nature's remedies. Pure air, pure water, and healthful exercise should be employed in the treatment of the sick.--U. T., 1892. {HL 247.1} •  Many physicians are not as thorough and intelligent as they should be in the practise of their profession. They resort to drugs, when greater skill and knowledge would teach them a more excellent way. Lives have been lost which might have been saved if drugs had not been resorted to. As a rule, the less frequently they are employed, the better the patient will prosper.--U. T., 1888. {HL 247.2}

  36. Many physicians are not as thorough and intelligent as they ought to be in the practise of their profession. They resort to drugs, when greater skill and knowledge would teach them a more excellent way.--U. T., 1888. {HL 264.3} • When physicians understand physiology in its truest sense, their use of drugs will be very much less, and finally they will cease to use them at all. The physician who depends upon drug medication in his practise shows that he does not understand the delicate machinery of the human organism.--U. T., Oct. 12, 1896. {HL 264.4}

  37. Allopathy, Not to Exalt.--But in no case are you to stand as do the physicians of the world to exalt allopathy above every other practice, and call all other methods quackery and error; for from the beginning to the present time the results of allopathy have made a most objectionable showing. There has been loss of life in your sanitarium because drugs have been administered, and these give no chance for nature to do her work of restoration. Drug medication has broken up the power of the human machinery, and the patients have died. Others have carried the drugs away with them, making less effective the simple remedies nature uses to restore the system. The students in your institution [Battle Creek Sanitarium] are not to be educated to regard drugs as a necessity. They are to be educated to leave drugs alone.--Letter 67, 1899. {3MR 305.1}

  38. In Oakland I tried to show Dr. Maxson that his ideas were not after God's order in the set ideas that he could not harmonize with Dr. Gibbs. You say you have had an education in hygiene. Now, Dr. Maxson, you have all the opportunity in the world in the Rural Health Retreat to practice that education and demonstrate to Dr. Gibbs the fact that hygiene will do wonderful things. Just demonstrate this. Do not, if you see hard work in this practice like so many, leave it aside and resort to your strong doses of drugs. I have positive light that this is tampering with human life. {20MR 375.1}

  39. I then saw that an intelligent knowledge of pure air, and use of it wisely and abundantly, and simple healthful food taken into the stomach temperately, eating and drinking to the glory of God, and ten thousand would be well who are now sick. Then I was taken from room to room and shown disease and its causes, and the result of drug medication. I was then shown through rooms of a hygienic institution that was conducted on hygienic principles and these simple means--sunlight, pure air, healthful habits. Constant instruction needs to be given, line upon line, precept upon precept, in regard to the necessity of clean bodies, clean houses, and clean premises. {20MR 374.1} Breathing clean air would preserve health without the use of drugs. • But to deny self, to restrict the appetite, to eat only wholesome food and exercise temperance in eating the wholesome food, abstaining almost wholly from the flesh of dead animals that creates nine-tenths of [the] disease in our world, is too severe a process for a large part of our world and of professed Christians to enter into; so they eat and drink without reference to health, and the result is a depraved condition of the system; then they resort to the [use of] drugs, because that is easiest, and there continues to be wicked disregard of the laws of life and of health in taking care to preserve good health. {20MR 374.2}

  40. There are diseases of every stripe and type because self indulgence is practiced through willing ignorance. I tried to present to Dr. Maxson something of this matter the Lord had shown me, but I think it did not have the least impression on his mind. He stated that he regarded homeopathy as of the devil, of the same character as spiritualism and mesmerism. Now, Dr. Gibbs is not a homeopathic physician but he takes the good of all. He obtained his education in the regular school and has his diploma from that school. {20MR 374.3} • The use of water to help the sick, plenty of exercise, education as to how to breathe, education as to purity of habits, would throw drugs in the shade in their own place, where they naturally belong. {20MR 374.4}

  41. Make use of the remedies that God has provided. Pure air, sunshine, and the intelligent use of water are beneficial agents in the restoration of health. But the use of water is considered too laborious. It is easier to employ drugs than to use natural remedies. {HL 247.3} •      In treating the sick, the physician will seek God for wisdom; then, instead of placing his dependence upon drugs and expecting that medicine will bring health to his patients, he will use nature's restoratives, and employ natural means whereby the sick may be aided to recover. The Lord will hear and answer the prayers of the Christian physician.-- U. T., 188

  42. Drugs given to stupefy, whatever they may be, derange the nervous system.--H. to L., Chap. 3, p. 57. {HL 246.2} • Stupefy: to put into a state of little or no sensibility; benumb the faculties of; put into a stupor. • Derange: to throw into disorder; disarrange. To disturb the condition, action, or function of. • Drug medication, as it is generally practised, is a curse. Educate away from drugs, use them less and less, and depend more upon hygienic agencies. Nature will respond to God's remedies,--pure air, pure water, proper exercise, and a clear conscience. --U. T., 1888. {HL 246.4}

  43. Date:  July 20, 2006Contacts:  Christine Stencel, Media Relations OfficerChris Dobbins, Media Relations AssistantOffice of News and Public Information202-334-2138; e-mail <news@nas.edu>FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASEMedication Errors Injure 1.5 Million People and Cost Billions of Dollars Annually;Report Offers Comprehensive Strategies for Reducing Drug-Related Mistakes • WASHINGTON -- Medication errors are among the most common medical errors, harming at least 1.5 million people every year, says a new report from the Institute of Medicine of the National Academies.  The extra medical costs of treating drug-related injuries occurring in hospitals alone conservatively amount to $3.5 billion a year, and this estimate does not take into account lost wages and  productivity or additional health care costs, the report says.

  44. Medical Errors - A Leading Cause of Death • The JOURNAL of the AMERICAN MEDICAL ASSOCIATION (JAMA) Vol 284, No 4, July 26th 2000 article written by Dr Barbara Starfield, MD, MPH, of the Johns Hopkins School of Hygiene and Public Health, shows that medical errors may be the third leading cause of death in the United States.The report apparently shows there are 2,000 deaths/year from unnecessary surgery; 7000 deaths/year from medication errors in hospitals; 20,000 deaths/year from other errors in hospitals; 80,000 deaths/year from infections in hospitals; 106,000 deaths/year from non-error, adverse effects of medications - these total up to 225,000 deaths per year in the US from iatrogenic causes which ranks these deaths as the # 3 killer. Iatrogenic is a term used when a patient dies as a direct result of treatments by a physician, whether it is from misdiagnosis of the ailment or from adverse drug reactions used to treat the illness. (drug reactions are the most common cause).

  45. Prescription Drugs - Leading Killer in USAAccording to information we have received, a statistical study of hospital deaths in the U.S. conducted at the University of Toronto revealed that pharmaceutical drugs kill more people every year than are killed in traffic accidents. • The study is said to show that more than two million American hospitalized patients suffered a serious adverse drug reaction (ADR) within the 12-month period of the study and, of these, over 100,000 died as a result. The researchers found that over 75 per cent of these ADRs were dose-dependent, which suggests they were due to the inherent toxicity of the drugs rather than to allergic reactions. • The data did not include fatal reactions caused by accidental overdoses or errors in administration of the drugs. If these had been included, it is estimated that another 100,000 deaths would be added to the total every year. • The researchers concluded that ADRs are now the fourth leading cause of death in the United States after heart disease, cancer, and stroke.

  46. THE CHINA STUDY: (T.Collin Campbell PHD). pg16: even with the use of approved medicines and correct medication procedures, over one hundred thousand people die every year from unintended reactions to the ‘medicine’ that is supposed to be reviving their health. Incidently this same report which summarized and analyzed thirty nine separate studies, found that almost 7% ( one out of 15) of all hospitalized patients have experienced a serious adverse drug reaction, one that ‘requires hospitalization, prolongs hospitalization, is permanently disabling or results in death. These are people who took their medicine as directed. • So as noted before : If similar conditions , situations, effects relating to drugs occur in our modern society , then the following statements are both relative to our time and even more forcefull now than then.

  47. Through god’s healing ways , there is hope for us in the prevention and cure of diseases. It requires faith that works.we have a sure promise that nature will respond , to god’s natural remedies, that are easily in the reach of all, and inexpensive. • There is nothing no nothing that god’s remedies cannot heal the plan of salvation teaches us that before there was the sin problem, the answer to mans unfortunate destiny was already in place: • Before sin entered , the sacrifice was already in place , that as man sinned, he would have hope: • Death and disease is a result of sin: therefore where sin abounded grace did much more abound, where disease abounds the cure much more abounds. • The cure for every disease was in existence long before disease ever was. • Seek and ye shall find………………………

  48. Matthew: 10:1 • John: 14:12 • We have been entrusted by God with the Ministry of Healing. LIFE AND LIGHT.
