Moderate Sour Service Work Group 4232 Presentation to MAG at API E&P Winter Standards Meeting Addison, TX January 2014 Alex Afaganis
2013 Meetings • Presented proposal for Annex H modification: • Recommended using Solution A HIC acceptance criteria (CSR≤2%; CLR≤15%; CSR≤5%) for non-Solution A tests • It was pointed out this contravenes ISO 15156-2 Table B.3 which requires 0% cracking for non-solution A environments* • Manufacturers stated that this would require “severe” sour steelmaking – defeating purpose of commodity grade moderate sour product. * Alternate criteria subject to documented approval of equipment user
NACE Activity • To justify proposal to allow test results with “minor” cracking, either full scale test data in similar environments and/or field data showing successful field use. • EPRG is conducting full scale test research into this issue and results may be available in 2014? • NACE MP recommends FFS solution in MR0175 as basis. • HIC test duration under discussion in TM0284
NACE Way Forward • NACE recommended 5L use: • Test procedures – TM0284 basis • Test gas – H2S/CO2 with no N2 balance • Test solution – FFS simulated to specific environment • NACE intention is to wait until TM0284 is updated with alternate test method for a specific service, then the TM0175/ISO 15156-2 will be updated.
September 2013 NACE A NACE meeting was held in Vancouver though none of the key committees (TG082 - TM0284, nor the MP for MR0175) met. Unofficial discussion with MR0175 MP chair suggested that the decision on MR0175 changes would likely not be before 2015 at earliest.
API WG4232 Way Forward • Have an API WG member attend next NACE meeting 16-18Mar2014 (San Antonio) and discuss with NACE members • Continue to monitor NACE progress • Reconsider Solution D selection?
