  1. Do Now: 12/21/10 • Answer the following question: • What is Hip Hop? • What are the elements/ingredients of Hip Hop culture?

  2. Assignment - Due Jan. 5th • You will write a 500 word essay analyzing the development of hip-hop as a folk turned pop culture phenomenon. Your essay will address the following points: • Correctly outline the development and evolution of hip-hop culture and the hip-hop industry. • Accurately address each of the 3 focus questions. • Answers must include a personal analysis of hip hop culture making reference to the different types of expansion diffusion, the relationship between globalization and local diversity, and the influence of different cultural regions on hip hop.

  3. Optional Extra Credit • You will create a word/picture collage demonstrates Hip Hop’s transition from folk to pop culture. • Your collage should include examples of expansion diffusion (properly labeled), relevant history and/or elements of Hip Hop culture - and should present them in a way that demonstrates the evolution of hip hop from a folk culture movement in NYC to a global pop culture. • More details to come tomorrow.... • Due Wed. Jan. 5th at the beginning of class
