  4. Alex bought four hamburgers for $1.89 each. The sales tax was $.53. • What was the total price? • He paid with a $10 bill. How much change should he have gotten back? $1.89 x 4 = $7.56 $7.56 + $.53 = $8.09 (a) $10.00 - $8.09 = $1.91 (b)

  6. Joe bought a rectangular piece of land that was 3 miles long and 2 miles wide. Half of the land could be farmed. How many square miles could not be farmed? 3 miles x 2 miles = 6 miles² ½ of 6 miles² = 3 miles²
