Schlieffen Plan By Akihiko, Claus and Hadiatou
What is the Schlieffen Plan The Schlieffen Plan (Spring Offensive or Kaiserschlacht) was the German strategic plan that was to be put into action if there was war against both France and Russia simultaneously. The rationale behind the Schlieffen Plan was to knock out France completely out of war before Russia mobilized its vast amount of soldiers.
The expectation Germany had on Russia and France during the war France • Small and weak army • Can be defeated in 6 weeks Russia • Large army • Takes 6 weeks to mobilize the troops due to massive army and slow industrialization
Although the Germans were 65km away from Paris, the Germans were exhausted and were in an open territory while having to defend the extended frontline and less reserves to fall upon. With Allies having fresh reinforcements from USA, The Germans fall back meaning the plan was a failure.
