What is democracy? • A political system for choosing and replacing the government through free and fair elections. • The active participation of the people, as citizens, in politics and civic life. • Protection of the human rights of all citizens. • A rule of law, in which the laws and procedures apply equally to all citizens.

  5. Kellogg Briand-Pact • This was an agreement signed on august 27th, 1928. It is more properly known as the Pact of Paris. Artiside Briand proposed to the U.S government a treaty outlawing war between the two countries. The Pact of Paris was then signed by 15 nations, Australia, Belgium, Canada, Czechoslovakia, France, Germany, Great Britain, India, the Irish Free State, Italy , Japan, New Zealand, Poland, South Africa, and the United States.

  6. Disarmament • In world war one there was an enormity of death and destruction, this made the American public really think about ways that they could prevent war in the future. This also introduced Disarmament in the League of Nations.

  7. Foreign Policy • Britain’s postwar foreign policy created tensions with its ally France. Almost from the signing of the Treaty of Versailles, British leaders wanted to relax the treaty’s harsh treatment of Germany. • They feared that if Germany became to weak, the Soviet Union would be able to expand, and France might gain too much control on the continent.
