Who am I? Mrs. Ritchie • Married for 2 months. • Teaching for 9 years. • Born in Kansas. • Father was Army for so moved all over. • Favorite Teams: Chicago Bears, Chicago Cubs • Favorite Food: Tacos • I enjoy reading, motorcycling, and travel.
Who am I? Mrs. Upchurch • Married for 21 years • Two daughters – ages 17 and 20 • Teaching at TCES for 11 years • Total teaching is 16 years • I enjoy going out to dinner with friends and family and going to the movies • I am from Georgia
Classroom procedures • Come to class prepared • Book-bag stays with you • Desk belongs to more than one person – do not leave personal items in the desks • Textbooks can be checked out to take home • Write homework down when you enter classroom from homework board
Missing papers – look in “NO Name” tub • Extra copies of papers in Tub • Papers go home when graded – placed in purple home folder • Morning Work – complete during homeroom • Folders – label according to color – one for each subject – anything needed for homework can be found in these folders.
Test Schedule • Monday – Reading • Tuesday – Science • Wednesday – Math • Thursday – Language Arts/Vocabulary • Friday – Social Studies
Classroom Rules • Always do your best • Come to class prepared • Respect personal space and items • Pay Attention to Teacher • Listen carefully • Help each other
Snacks – must be healthy and only water to drink.(fruit, vegetables, crackers, granola bars, cheese, etc….) • Restroom – Go only when needed. We will go at snack time, before lunch, and after recess each day as a class. • Nurse and counselor – ask to go only when there is a great need. • Accelerator Reader – participate and join our ice cream party at the end of the year.
Discipline • You will begin with a 100 points each week • 1 strike or cut and 2 points will be subtracted. This is your warning • 2 strikes or cuts and 4 points will be subtracted. Time out for 5 minutes at recess • 3 strickes or cuts in a day and 6 points will be subtracted. Time out for 10 minutes at recess and communication with parents. • 4 strickes or cuts in a day – trip to office- 8 points subtracted. If you go to STOP – additional 5 points will be subtracted.
Schoolnotes • New.schoolnotes.com • If you turned in an email address on the blue cards, you should be receiving schoolnotes every time we make an update. • Type in Freeland in the teacher box.
Communication • You can send an email by schoolnotes • You can also send us an email off the TCES website. • You can all the office and leave a message but email is the best.
Transitions We are working on moving from one subject to the next as well as from class to class. Due to the large class size and new floors, the noise level can escalate much more quickly.
Homework • Homework is located on schoolnotes. However, students must write in the agenda daily incase homework changes. • We try to limit how much – please let us know if your child is struggling so we can determine why and how to help.
Language/Creative Writing/Spelling • Tests are on Thursday • 6+1 Writing Traits will be taught – handout has been provided • Study DGP and spelling/vocabulary nightly • Spelling/Vocabulary will be given out on Friday. • Cursive Writing – we will spend a few days reviewing. Final copies of creative writing will be completed in cursive unless told otherwise.
Math/Science • Math folder(blue) needs plenty of loose leaf paper in pocket – this does not include the paper in the prongs. • Study all basic facts • PW – stands for Practice Workbook • Accelerated Math will begin soon.
Math/Science • We will have a lot of labs and may make requests for supplies needed at times. • We may be requesting parents to come help with some of these labs. • We will have vocabulary quizzes and unit tests for each unit. • We will participate in the Science Fair in the Spring. Details to come
Reading/Social Studies In Social Studies we will: *use study guides(each unit will have a vocab. Test and a unit test) *simulations and other activities *Projects *Have Tests and performance tasks ****Map Test this week*****
Reading/Social Studies In Reading we will: *Read a lot of novels *Understand how to comprehend what we read and apply it by asking “thinking” questions *Keep journals *Complete book reports-one each 9 weeks *Participate in Accelerated Reader
