About Surrealism History: Surrealism art became popular in the 1920s. It is a cultural movement and artistic style, creativelyfound by Andre Breton, in 1924. Style: The style of Surrealism is a bit like a dream. It does not show reality but it shows the impossible. It is imaginations like in dreams. It is unique in its own way and fantasy is shown in the art works, too.
About the Artist Salvador Dali D.O.B: May 11, 1904 P.O.B: Catalonia, Spain D.O.D: January 23, 1989 Information: Dali had an artistic talent from his childhood, and his parents were very enthusiastically supporting. After his mother sadly died, he went on to study in the School of Fine Arts, in Madrid. There, he studied for several years. Before his graduation, he was expelled for bad behavior. 1931, Dali collaborated on a short film- directed by his classmate; beautifully illustrated a book called The Witches of the Liers; met his future wife, Gala; imaginatively painted his most famous art work: The Persistence of Memory. 1940, he moved to United States with Gala. In the late 1940, they moved back to Spain and continued on with his art career. In 1942, Dali impressively wrote an autobiography- The Secret Life of Salvador Dali. Salvador Dali was a fantastic artist and died from heart failure in 1989.
Famous Art Works Persistence of Memory Artist: Salvador Dali Year: 1931 Information: Dali often used ants in his art works to represent death or female’s organ in the reproductive system. This piece shows the softness and the hardness from the clocks melting. Dali based this piece on a dream he had before, and the idea of melting clocks was from slowly melting cheese he was eating.
