The present tense of a verb is used for the following: • Facts of science, mathematics, geography, etc. • Universally true statements or customary happenings not limited to a particular time • Definitions • Information about the content of a literary work despite its having been written in the past or its being written in the past tense • However, historical information about the author or the work itself should be expressed in the passed tense.
