CS 8803 - CREATIVITY AND DESIGN COGNITIONCREATIVITYANALYSIS By SURABHI SATAM ANUJA CHOCKALINGAM LUXMI SAHA SPRING 2010
CREATIVITY ANALYSIS - CONTENTS • Project Idea • Procedure Used - Survey • Analysis of the Responses / Feedback • Drawbacks of the Procedure used • Conclusions SPRING 2010
CREATIVITY ANALYSIS - PROJECT IDEA • Creativity levels differ from individual to individual • Often guided by the person's background / profession • Project classifies individuals based on the survey conducted and draws the appropriate conclusions SPRING 2010
CREATIVITY ANALYSIS - SURVEY • Methodology used - Survey • Survey based on interpreting IMAGES • Images provided and the common responses Responses: - Intricate Cobweb - Conical Structures - Deep Well SPRING 2010
CREATIVITY ANALYSIS - SURVEY Responses: - 2D painting - 3D mesh of ropes - DNA - Subatomic Particles - Paper Cut Art SPRING 2010
CREATIVITY ANALYSIS - SURVEY Responses: - Beautiful flower buds and leaves against a blue background - Intersecting Shapes SPRING 2010
CREATIVITY ANALYSIS - SURVEY Responses: - Internal Ear Structure - Section View of Entangled Conical Structures - Rain drops in a pink liquid - Calm and Smooth SPRING 2010
ANALYSIS OF THE RESPONSES • Students from the CS background, who do not have a lot of exposure to art/design often tend to think in the most obvious ways • Students from the Math background tend to relate their answers to shapes, numbers, etc • Students from the Art / Design / Architecture background think intuitively and hold better imagination and high creativity levels. SPRING 2010
CREATIVITY ANALYSIS - DRAWBACKS • May not be a foolproof procedure • Analysis is limited to the questions and answers provided in the survey • Sample space may be inadequate SPRING 2010
CREATIVITY ANALYSIS - CONCLUSION • Creativity is most certainly shaped by the academic profession / background of an individual • Since a person spends almost 12 hours of the day over his work life (profession), his thought process is directed towards his work life • This typically constraints the thoughts, imagination and creativity in turn SPRING 2010
