A Compact Champion has the responsibility for making the Compact known, understood and used within their individual organisation, department or sector and through local partnerships, forums and events. • Champions play a vital part in taking the Compact and its enthusiasm forward in their area A Compact Champion www.compactvoice.org.uk

  3. Greater awareness of the Compact and its benefits • Better relationships • Conflict resolution and problem solving • Embedding Compact in Mainstream Structures • Helping to build an evidence base - monitoring impact • Involving excluded groups Why Have Champions? www.compactvoice.org.uk

  4. On the spur of the moment e.g. at events such as an AGM or Compact launch • By virtue of their job title • Through their own initiative • As part of a strategy to improve Compact Working within an organisation • Local Recruitment through a nomination process How are Champions recruited? www.compactvoice.org.uk

  5. Who are Compact Champions? • Elected Members • Department Leads • Manager or Officer • CVS Chief Executive/Director • Compact Officer • Engagement Officer with responsibility for Partnerships www.compactvoice.org.uk

An understanding of the Compact • An ability to see the bigger picture in terms of working towards positive outcomes • Good communication skills • An understanding of the environment of the other sector and the challenges they face • Tenacity & Commitment • Diplomacy and the ability to influence What skills do Champions need? www.compactvoice.org.uk

  7. Limited time for Champions to fulfil their role • The Compact being left to the Champions • Difficulty in getting Compact embedded throughout statutory bodies • Opposition and negativity • Compact not always linked into mainstream structures Challenges www.compactvoice.org.uk

  8. Challenges • Lack of communication between Champions • Reluctance to publicise ‘Compact wins’ • Poor information for Champions • Nobody to take responsibility for the above www.compactvoice.org.uk

  9. What do Champions need? • Induction Process • Training • Resources and where to find them • Ongoing support • Regular updates on a national and local level • Clear guidelines regarding time commitment, attendance at meetings and a mandate to speak for others www.compactvoice.org.uk
