Planning for High School • Schedule • Period 1 7:35 – 8:29 • Period 2 8:34 – 9:29 • Period 3 9:34 – 10:28 • Period 4 10:28 – 11:58 (includes a 30 minute lunch) • Period 5 12:03 – 12:57 • Period 6 1:02 – 1:56 • Period 7 2:01 – 2:55 • Credits: Students must earn 26 credits during 4 years to graduate. High school credits are earned by semester. • .5 credit is earned for 1 semester • 1.0 credit is earned for a full year
Graduation Requirements Students must meet the following requirements to graduate: • Complete therequired 26 creditsfor either the • Recommended High School Program (RHSP) OR • Distinguished Achievement Program (DAP) • Meet State Assessment Requirements • State of Texas Assessment of Academic Readiness (STAAR)
Credit Requirements • Ninth Grade 0.0 - 5.5 credits • Tenth Grade 6.0 – 12.5 credits • Eleventh Grade 13.0 – 18.5 credits • Twelfth Grade 19.0 or more credits
Recommended High School Program (RHSP) • 4 English: English I-IV • 4 Math: Algebra I/Geometry/Algebra II + 4th Math Option OR Alg. I/Geometry/ Math Models/Algebra II • 4 Science: Biology, Chemistry & Physics + 4th Science option • 4 Social Studies: World Geography, World History, US History, Government and Economics • 1 PE or equivalent (Band, Athletics, Cheerleading, or Dance) • 1 Fine Art (Band, Choir, Art, Theatre Arts, Dance or Floral Design) • .5 Professional Communications (Speech) • 2 Foreign Language (Spanish/American Sign Language) • 5.5 Electives • 26 Total Credits

Distinguished Achievement ProgramFour Advanced Measures Students wishing to complete the DAP for graduation must complete four advanced measures from the following: Dual-Credit Courses Each semester of a dual-credit course with a grade of B or higher Advanced Placement (AP) Exam Each AP exam score of 3 or higher

LEVELS OF COURSEWORK • PAP: Pre-Advanced Placement (College Board) • Dual Credit: High School and College Credit (Lee College) • AP: Advanced Placement (College Board)
PAP/AP vs. Dual Credit • PAP courses in grades 9, 10, and 11 prepare students for AP courses. • Successful completion of an AP course gives students high school credit. • Scoring well on an AP test (3, 4, or 5) gives students college credit, depending on the institution. • Weighted grade points are awarded to PAP and AP courses (5.0, 6.0). AP courses can be an advanced measure on the Distinguished Achievement Plan.* • Successful completion of AP coursework is the best indicator for college success and ranks as one of the leading indicators for admission into the most competitive colleges and universities. *if certain criteria are met • PAP courses in grades 9, 10, and 11 can also prepare students for dual credit courses. • Successful completion of a dual credit course gives students high school credit and college credit (Lee College). • Weighted grade points are awarded to Dual Credit courses (5.5) that are taken during the regular school day in the fall and spring semesters. DC courses taken during the summer do not count toward GPA but can be applied as an advanced measure on the Distinguished Achievement Plan.* • Successful completion of dual credit coursework can be an indicator of college success and is a consideration for most colleges and universities. *if certain criteria are met PAP and AP Courses Dual Credit Courses
