  7. How to contact your counselor? Counselor office hours: 7:15-3:15 • Students can see their counselor before school, after school, or at lunch (no appointment necessary) • An appointment or hall pass is neededin order for students to meet with counselors during class time • Parents should call to set up an appointment with their student’s counselor

Required Paperwork • Parents must do online enrollment, turn in immunization records and 1 utility bill (write student’s name on utility bill) at MKHS starting 6/3/19 (ONLY for Garvey students) • MKHS summer office hours: 8 a.m.-11:30 a.m. & 1 p.m. -2:30 p.m. M-Th • Students already in the district, turn in utility bill after 2/15/19. Regular office hours: 7:30 a.m. - 3 p.m. M-F • Failure to do online enrollment will result in student not being enrolled

  14. Permits • Permit process starts in February • Submit applications in February • Notification of acceptance or denial will be decided in the beginning of June • Copy of report card (final grades) and utility bill required

  19. PODER: Pursuing Our Dreams through Education and Responsibility A four year program designed to prepare high school students for a higher education. PODER students: • will complete a rigorous college prep path • enroll in honors & AP courses • will take leadership positions at school • will become involved in school activities

  20. PODER Who should apply? • Those that desire to work hard • Will be the first in the family to attend college • GPA between 1.5 & 3.0 • Willing to enroll in rigorous college-prep courses, including honors and AP classes

  21. Aspiring Medical Professionals Academy • 3 year program (10th-12th) • Summer internships in a pharmacy • Job shadowing • 3 CTE courses included (Medical Terminology, Pharmacy Clerk, & Pharmacy Technician) • Field trips, college visits, guest speakers, mentors, etc.

  22. Career Technical Education (CTE) Courses • MKHS offers CTE classes during the school day & afterschool. MK students can take after school classes at AHS, and SGHS (after school). -Only high school credits • Sample school day courses: -Pharmacy Clerk -Medical Terminology -Automotive Technology -Foods -Graphic Design • Sample after school courses: -Video Game Design -Welding -Building and Constructions -Heating, Ventilation, Air-conditioning

  23. Community College Dual Enrollment Courses • Offered at MKHS, AHS, and SGHS (after school) • Earn college credits • Sample courses: • Public Speaking • Concepts of Criminal Law • Sociology

  24. Early College Program (ECP) • Students will earn 35 college units in general education courses for IGETC certification • 4 year commitment • 1 class every semester (including summers)

  28. What Happens Next? Students will be able to access their schedule on the Student Portal before school starts (date TBD). Schedule changes: - There will be allotted times for students to see counselor before the school year starts (TBD).
