Borough • In principle, the term borough designates a self-governing township. • Examples: • LaSalle • Verdun • Etc. • Borough councils will be made up of a borough mayor, any city councillors elected within the borough and, as required, borough councillors.
City Council • City council is made up of 65 elected officials: • 46 city councillors • the mayor of Montreal • and the 18 other borough mayors.
Executive Council • The city’s executive committee is composed of the mayor of Montreal and certain (11) city council members chosen by the mayor.
Agglomeration Council • Created in 2006, the agglomeration council is made up of the mayor of Montreal, 15 members of Montreal’s city council named by the mayor, 14 mayors from the independent municipalities (Dorval and Dorval Island have one representative), and an additional representative from Dollard-des-Ormeaux due to the size of the city, chosen by the mayor of that city.
