Maryland Executive Branch • The Governor is the chief executive of the State. • Four year term • Presides over the Governor’s Executive Council (Cabinet) • includes the heads of the departments which oversee most State government agencies. • Powers and duties of the Governor • Appointments cabinet and agencies • Create State Budget

  4. State Executives • Lieutenant Governor - president of the Senate and acts as Governor if/when Governor cannot • Attorney General – chief legal executive of the state • Comptroller – How much we need to collect in taxes

Prince George’s County Executive Branch • Implements and enforces the laws of Prince George's County and provides executive direction to the government. • Chief executive officer is the County Executive. • Rushern Baker • Over 30 executive branch departments and agencies help to deliver services to County residents. • Libraries • Hospitals • Sheriff • Gangs • Transportation • Health • Housing • Parks and Planning • Family Services • Waste Management • Schools
