  2. Georgia’s Constitution provides for several constitutional officers who are the heads of executive departments and are elected directly by the voters for four-year terms.

State GovernmentExecutive Governor – Head of Executive Branch • Elected to 4 year term and can only serve two terms • Governor proposes new programs and laws for the state, proposes a state budget for the legislature to consider, vetoes legislation and appoints members of many of the boards in state government. • The Governor can also pardon criminals and appoint Justices to the Georgia Court system

  4. Qualifications to be Governor • Must be 30 years old • Must be a citizen of the United States for 15 years • Must have resided in Georgia for 6 years

  6. Lt. Governor As the President of the Senate, the Lt. Governor presides over debate in the Senate chamber and oversees the Committee that determines Senate committee membership.  He is also responsible for choosing the chairman of each committee. The Lt. Governor can serve an unlimited number of terms unlike the Governor.

  8. Statutory Officials • There are certain jobs that are required under the Georgia Constitution by law: • State Board of Pardons and Paroles • Board of Natural Resources • State Personnel Board • Board of Public Safety

  11. Executive Offices of Federal Government President – acts as head of state and Commander-in-Chief of the armed forces. The President is responsible for implementing and enforcing the laws written by Congress and appoints the heads of the federal agencies, including the Cabinet.   12. Qualifications for President • Natural born citizen of the United States • Must be 35 years of age or older • Must be resident of United States for 14 years

  13. What do you get for being President? During his term of office, the President has use of the White House for his residence and office. Transportation is available to the President which is; specially built automobiles, jets (Air Force One, and helicopters (Marine One). The President also has use of Camp David, a mountain resort in Maryland. The President also receives $400,000 a year, he has a $150,000 expense account, a $100,000 travel account, and a $19,000 entertainment account.

  15. Role of Vice President The Vice President also serves as the President of the United States Senate, where he or she casts the deciding vote. The primary responsibility of the Vice President of the United States is to be ready at a moment's notice to assume the Presidency if the President is unable to perform his duties.

  16. Vice President continued • The Vice President has an office in the West Wing of the White House, as well as in the nearby Eisenhower Executive Office Building. He also maintains an official residence, at the United States Naval Observatory in Northwest Washington, D.C. The Vice President also has his own limousine, operated by the United States Secret Service, and flies on the same aircraft the President uses — but when the Vice President is aboard, the craft are referred to as Air Force Two and Marine Two.

  17. Cabinet The Cabinet is an advisory body made up of the heads of the 15 executive departments. Appointed by the President and confirmed by the Senate, the members of the Cabinet are often the President's closest confidants. Those who serve as heads of their departments are called Secretary except for the head of the Justice Department called the Attorney General.
