  1. UK Sport • For England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland • Focussed on creating World-class (Elite) performance • Aim is to win more medals/trophies for national sports teams • Distribute lottery and government funding • Develop facilities • Development of drug-screening programmes

  2. Sport England • Partly run by government but makes own decisions • Aims to increase participation and involvement in Sport • Promotes healthy active lifestyles for a healthier nation • Distributes lottery and government funding • Provides facilities in communities

Central Council for Physical Recreation (CCPR) • Represents voluntary organisations and local governing bodies • Work extensively with youth groups and community projects • One of their projects involves ensuring pupils receive 2 hours of PE within curriculum time – this is a national sport/exercise strategy

Sports Governing Bodies • Each sport has a governing body – for example Football has the FA, UEFA and FIFA • Clubs pay an affiliation fee to the governing body which enables them to have a say on certain issues in the game and also enter competitions organised by the governing body • There are usually several levels of control to governing bodies • Roles of governing bodies include: establishing rules, organising competitions, developing coaching awards (this involves technical advice) and selection of individuals for representative honours

Sports Leaders UK • Seeks to promote and encourage leadership skills in young people • Provides Sports leadership awards and qualifications (encouraging participation in wider aspects of sport) • Sports Leaders Award Level 1 – for people aged 14-16: involves coaching and working with young children • Community Leaders Award – 16 years+: involves more independent session planning and delivery • Basic Expedition Leaders Award: for students wishing to lead groups in activities such as orienteering
