  1. September 23 & 24 Seminar

  2. Agenda • Readings: Discussions • Collecting Thoughts • Small group discussion • Homework: • Write a VIABLE draft of your Ethical Dilemma Paper (choose a topic from the sheet). • Due Thursday/Friday Oct. 3 & 4 for workshop

  3. Reading: Part I • On the reading, please do the following tasks individually: • Summarize the main points of the 2 readings. • Pick out 1 favorite passage (based on importance, interest, your connection—or lack of connection, confusion, etc.) from EACH reading. • Be ready to describe your passage and reason why you chose it.

  4. Reading: Part II • In a small group (3-4 people), please follow the protocol on the next page. • We’ll start with the essay and leave the intro for when we have more time. • NOTE: The purpose is NOT to rush through and get to the end of the rounds. The point is to dig deeply into the text. When you finish, you should have a better understanding of the text than when you started.

  5. Discussion Protocol • Choose one person to be a time keeper. • Choose a person who wants to start. • You will participate in “rounds” of about 5 min. • Each person will be given 2 min to share his/her passage and why they chose it. • Group members not sharing will listen. • After person A shares, each person in the group will have 30 secs to 1 min to respond briefly to what Person A said. • Person B will have 2 min to share his/her passage and why they chose it. After sharing, each person will have max 1 min to respond. • Continue until every person has had a chance to share

  6. Exit Slip • Please write down 1 new idea or new connection that you had AFTER your discussion. • Put your name on it!
