Youth Risk Behavior Survey (YRBS) • Survey to monitor the risk behaviors that contribute to morbidity, mortality, and social problems among youth
What is the YRBS? • Part of CDC’s Youth Risk Behavior Surveillance System • DOHMH and DOE: Citywide, expanded sample • Every 2 years • 2-stage cluster sample • Public high schools, classrooms • Self-administered, voluntary and anonymous • 2005 survey • 91 high schools • Response rate >60%
Questions of Interest • During the past 12 months, did your boyfriend or girlfriend ever hit, slap, or physically hurt you on purpose? • Yes / No • “Physical Dating Violence” = PDV • Have you ever been physically forced to have sexual intercourse when you did not want to? • Yes / No
