  1. A Whole lot of Shaking going on … Getting Focus…in a Shaky World! Acts 4:23-35

  2. Today is Pentecost Sunday • The Day the Church Recognizes afresh the Advent of the Spirit as the fulfillment of God’s New covenant Promises among us….

  3. Getting our Wind… • We read the first 6 chapters of Acts somewhat casually I fear… • In fact Scripture indicates that as we approach the Last days before Christ’s return the His Spirit explosions ratchet up rather than slow down.

  4. We cannot be Who Christ is calling us to be without His Spirit empowerment… • Jesus instructions: • Luke 24:49I am going to send you what my Father has promised; but stay in the city until you have been clothed with power from on high… • Acts 1:8But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth…

  5. Catching their breath… The Day of Pentecost outpouring among them had changed everything…now they were living in 3D and full blown resurrection power.

  6. A Breaker miracle occurs… Acts 3 A man born crippled who had been a mainstay at the temple Gate beautiful as a beggar…was healed through the Power of the Spirit in Peter and John.

  7. Now the Shaky part comes in… Acts 4 Acts 4:3 They seized Peter and John, and because it was evening, they put them in jail until the next day.

  8. How do we function in a Shaky…last days world? The picture of a functioning Last Days Church full of the Spirit and Power... standing against the shaky times…

  9. Text: Acts 4:23-35   23 On their release, Peter and John went back to their own people and reported all that the chief priests and elders had said to them. 24 When they heard this, they raised their voices together in prayer to God. “Sovereign Lord,” they said, “you made the heaven and the earth and the sea, and everything in them.

  10. Acts 4:25-26 25 You spoke by the Holy Spirit through the mouth of your servant, our father David: “ ‘Why do the nations rage and the peoples plot in vain? 26 The kings of the earth take their stand and the rulers gather together against the Lord and against his Anointed One.

  11. Acts 4:27-28 27 Indeed Herod and Pontius Pilate met together with the Gentiles and the people of Israel in this city to conspire against your holy servant Jesus, whom you anointed. 28 They did what your power and will had decided beforehand should happen.

  12. Acts 4:29-30 29 Now, Lord, consider their threats and enable your servants to speak your word with great boldness. 30 Stretch out your hand to heal and perform miraculous signs and wonders through the name of your holy servant Jesus.”

  13. Acts 4:31 31 After they prayed, the place where they were meeting was shaken. And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and spoke the word of God boldly.

  14. Acts 4:32-33 32 All the believers were one in heart and mind. No one claimed that any of his possessions was his own, but they shared everything they had. 33 With great power the apostles continued to testify to the resurrection of the Lord Jesus, and much grace was upon them all.

  15. Acts 4:34-35 34 There were no needy persons among them. For from time to time those who owned lands or houses sold them, brought the money from the sales 35 and put it at the apostles’ feet, and it was distributed to anyone as he had need.

  16. Satan wants to stop the Advance of the church! • Satan will tell you this Holy Spirit thing is not for you. • Satan will tell you that the Baptism of the Spirit is divisive. • Satan will attempt to hide this power dimension from the Church of Jesus Christ so that she relies only on her own abilities.

  17. God’s Dream over His You His Church A Restored Relationship with the Father, through Jesus Christ. His purposes flowing out of our lives, by an Every Day Empowerment, … in the power of the Holy Spirit.

  18. What do you do when life gets shaky… • Realize that Heaven is waiting on us with Promise! • Waiting for us to unleash His Promise in prayer  • Waiting for us to step into our New authority • Waiting for us to understand our New position

  19. What do you do when life gets shaky… II. Rely upon Our God who is the Sovereign Lord of the Universe vv. 24-28 • The subject of their prayers • Getting Heaven’s perspective of our situation (God working in all this stuff)! • Placing it all in His hands

  20. What do you do when life gets shaky… III. Ask for More of His Empowering Presence vv. 29-30 • Getting Heaven’s perspective of our situation (God working in all this stuff)! • Placing it all in His hands • Boldly ask for His Supernatural Presence to flood us.

  21. Enable your servants to Speak Your Word boldly… • A Word that has Supernatural Authority and Power in Jesus Name. • Stretch out Your hand to heal and perform miraculous signs and wonders through the Name of Your Holy Servant Jesus.

  22. Have you wondered if miraculous is for today??? • Have you wondered if Jesus wants to do today what He did while here on earth… here is Your answer! • The Key to this boldness was the Power of the Spirit of the Living God flowing in them… • They discovered a secret to life changing authority… Spirit Fullness.

  23. The Expectation of their prayer   • Signs and wonders…a part of Speaking Boldly… • Healing and miracles … Speaking Boldly… • All the Gifts of the Spirit flowing through the life of the Church, it’s leaders and people.

  24. Marks of a Church badly in need of ‘The Promise.’ A people who have little zeal for God and much attraction to the things of this world. A people who have lost their first love. A people who spend little time in prayer and do not love the Word of God. A people who have little boldness in witness… A place and a people just like you and me!

  25. God’s Answer to their prayer… Vs. 31After they prayed, the place where they were meeting was shaken. And they were filled with the Holy Spirit and spoke the word of God boldly.

  26. God’s Answer to their prayer… His light touch •  God just slightly ever so lightly touched the ground near the place where the church was praying…. WHY???? • God is more interested in filling us with His power than we have imagined. • God delights in demonstrating His glory to an expectant people • Heaven Waits on us.

  27. God’s Answer to their prayer… The church is largely unaware of God’s deep desire to Shake the place … God moves into uncomfortable… God sovereignly Moved in…filling them with Himself…

  28. God’s Answer to prayer 31b And they were filled with the Holy Spirit and spoke the word of God boldly. • On the Day of Pentecost… Wind, Fire and Explosive Sign gift called ‘Speaking in other tongues’.

  29. God’s Answer to Prayer • A second Pentecost … Building shaking evidence and again a BOLDNESS … rose up among them… • The Results…. (Initial evidence & Substantial Evidence)

  30. The Impact of Pentecost …. • Spoke the Word of God boldly with all it’s elements.. • Supernatural Signs and Wonders..healings… miracles. • A Unity produced in them because of surrender to the Spirit of God operative among them.. vs. 32

  31. The Impact of Pentecost …. • A graciousness of Heart and Faith…expressed in ‘unusual love being expressed’ in a communal sharing of resources, time and life. • Power in witness and power in testimony… • Much grace … a deep settled peace and supernatural trust that eliminated human distorting desires and sin.

  32. The Spirit comes to dwell in His people and not just come on them. The work of the Holy Spirit is a distinctive blessing of the New Age Jeremiah 31:33-34

  33. A Relationship not just an Experience A promise which all believers are made to participate and drink of the Holy Spirit The Baptism is a continual appropriation of Spirit life, ‘a saturation of the Holy Spirit’ in the inner being so that “Rivers of Living water” continuously flow (John 7:37-39)

  34. Spirit Baptism is all about empowerment Living in the Life of God Staying in Step with the Spirit

  35. Christ’s disciples felt the need for renewal and MORE … The church never outgrows the need for a Renewed Encounter and Surrender to God’s empowering Presence…

  36. Who is this Holy Spirit ? He is the third person of the Godhead, sent by Jesus to be our friend, guide, empowering Presence.

  37. This Promise is not: Obsolete, Outdated, Unsophisticated… or Overwhelmed by the technology and knowledge of the 21st Century!

  38. Today is Pentecost Sunday and Heaven is waiting on us.

  39. How to receive the Holy Spirit….! John 7:37-38 • On the last and greatest day of the Feast, Jesus stood and said in a loud voice, “If anyone is thirsty, let him come to me and drink. 38 Whoever believes in me, as the Scripture has said, streams of living water will flow from within him.”

  40. Actual Steps to Receiving … • Be thirsty…. • Come unto me … Jesus! • You are allowed to drink • Release the Outflow … out of your bellies will flow the Living Water…
