Support for university Program on HRD for Nuclear Energy MEXT and METI provide fund for unique education for nuclear energy in universities. (2007~) • MEXT have funded 34 programs(29 universities) in FY2009 (Budget : \ 240 million) • Examples of Programs ・Development of model curriculum and educational material・Invitation of guest lecturers from R&D institutions or companies・Field trip at nuclear power plants・Internship・Introduction of experimental equipments
Budget of nuclear human resource development(MEXT) (million yen) • 2007200820092010 〔Program on HRD for Nuclear Energy(2007~)/Instructor Training Programs, Researcher Exchange Program/NuHRDeC/Global Nuclear-HRD Initiative(2010~)〕
Support of Education for Nuclear Energy at Elementary and Secondary Education • It is important that each citizen acquires correct knowledge and ability make their decision appropriately. • To do so, MEXT promotes to grow the understanding of nuclear energy at the stage of elementary and secondary education. • This enables government to promote nuclear energy policy based on mutual understanding with citizen. 1. Financial assistance on education for Nuclear Energy in each prefecture 【Financial support to the action of local government】 - Developing and buying side readers - Buying experimental instruments - Field trip at nuclear power plants 2. Improvement of education for Nuclear Energy 【Projects operated by MEXT】 - Seminar for teachers - Lecture on demand (Experiment Class) - Lending simple radiation counter
Future perspective and New approach
Perspectives of Worldwide Nuclear Energy Development Europe (135GW→202GW) Korea (18GW→33GW) Russia (22GW→74GW) US (101GW→141GW) China (9GW→189GW) Middle East (0GW→30GW) Japan (47GW→68GW) India (4GW→48GW) South America (3GW→10GW) 2025(estimate) South East Asia (0GW→22GW) 2009 South Africa (2GW→9GW) (note) The number on top is the monetary scale of the market which is expected to emerge by 2025. The number in bracket is the capacity of NPPs (“current” and “estimate in 2025”). Based on data published by World Nuclear Association in January 2010. 11
MEXT’s Contribution to Nuclear Human Resource Development in Asia Human Resource Development Program for Asian Countries 【Outline】 Based on the consideration at FNCA, MEXT cooperates Asia countries for their Human Resource Development, Research & Development, etc. 【Enforcement Concept】 As individual projects at FNCA, there are ongoing 8 fields 11 projects such as Application for Agriculture, Application for Medical Care, Nuclear Safety. Positioning the areas relevant to these projects as the main, MEXT provides the training opportunities to Researchers, Engineers of Nuclear field in Asia countries, mainly FNCA member countries. ○Instructor Training Programs ・Reactor Engineering, Nuclear Safety/Safeguards, etc (Invitation) ・Follow up training to Instructors once trained in Japan (Dispatching) ・Objectives: Candidates of Instructor in Nuclear training facilities in Asian countries ○Researcher Exchange Program ・Research and Training of Radiation control and utilization (Invitation) ・Training of Nuclear Plant Safety, Safeguard, etc (Dispatching) ・Objectives: Engineers and Researchers in Asia countries Among the past participants are: ○Ms. Dela ROSA M. Alumanda Director, Philippine Nuclear Research Institute ○Mr. ANTARIKSAWAN, Anhar Riza Deputy Chairman, National Nuclear Energy Agency, Indonesia ○Mr. VUONG Huu Tan President, Vietnam Atomic Energy Institute Forum for Nuclear Cooperation in Asia (FNCA) Joint Research / Information Exchange in Workshops Activities in the fiscal year of 2010: 1.Application for Agriculture (Mutation Breeding & Biofertilizer) to be held in The Philippines in October 2010 2.Public Information to be held in Malaysia in January 2011 3.Application for Cyclotron and PET to be held in Vietnam in November 2010 And other 8 Workshops to be held Member countries: Australia, Bangladesh, China, Indonesia, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, The Philippines, Thailand, Vietnam Record of the fiscal year of 2009: Invitation 82, Dispatching 31 Accumulated Number(1985-2009): Invitation 2642, Dispatching 928
