What is Unity? • Unity is a tool for constructing graphically rich 3d virtual environments using a mac or pc. These worlds can have landscapes based on actual elevation data or be completely imaginary. • Once these virtual worlds are created they can be accessed by stand alone software on a mac or pc or loaded on a website and used with a web browser. All of the software we are showing today is available at: www.evwllc.co.
Who uses Unity? • NASA used it to construct a simulation of the Rover Curiosity • http://mars.jpl.nasa.gov/explore/curiosity/#290/446 • Caltech has used it for data analysis • http://www.surf.caltech.edu/seminarday/Final%20Compiled%20Abstract%20Book%202012/Abstract%20Book%20COMBINED%20FINAL%202012.pdf • Harvard University used it for ecoMUVE
Why should we use Unity in the Classroom?Virtual world software motivates students to learn and can raise test scores.
Students can master this program! • Matthew Brosinski, is a freshman at Franklin County High School, and will now demonstate a review game he created in unity.
Virtual World Software can also provide team building activities and promote problem solving and inquiry based thinking in a safe environment.
Please contact me for more information. • Dr. William Schmachtenberg • william.schmachtenberg@frco.k12.va.us • All of the software is available at: • www.evwllc.co • Our next presentation will be on February 25, 2013 at VSTE in second life. Please join us.
