VICHADA • Vichada is one of the 32 departments of Colombia. It is located in eastern Colombia, within which is located the National Park Tuparro. It is also the second largest Department of Colombia, after Amazon.
HISTORY • From colonial times to the mid-nineteenth century the present territory of Vichada belonged to the province of Bogota during the Gran Colombia (1819-1830), was part of the Department of Boyacá, between 1831 and 1857 constituted along with the Meta the territory of San Martin, in 1857, went on to make the state of Cundinamarca in 1867 happened to be administered directly by the national government under the name of San Martín Territory; Vichada came to life as an independent entity in 1913, by which was established by decree 523 Vichada police station, segregated from the jurisdiction of the Municipality of Meta
geography • Vichada department has an area of 105,947 km ², in terms of extent is comparable to that of South Korea. FAUNA • because of its wide variety of animal species among which are primates like araguate, the kinkajou, the widow, the capuchin capuchincapuchin and cuckold. You may find pumas, anteaters, otters, squirrels and deer sabaneros. In rivers Meta, Orinoco and Vita is possible to see alligators. The rich avifauna between which has about 320 species of herons represent, herons, parrots, parakeets, ducks, hawks, doves, quail, jays, jays, tiles, blackbirds and toches; ichthyological and amphibian faunas represent the bully, the yellow catfish, pacu, pomfret, the curito, bocachico (coporo), the Caribbean, the shaker, the alligator, the stifle, tortoise, and terrapin terecay. Many owls, crickets and bats complement fauna.
FLORA • The flora of Vichada is in the southern Amazon and orinoqués in the rest of Spain. Throughout the Meta River and its tributaries, the gallery forests consist of carob, odorous, guamos, Saladillos, animes, Moriches and other palms, and certainly guarataros oaks and chaparral. Shrubs and small plants, parasitic plant creeping up the mantle of the prairie landscape.
