Homeless Illiteracy Is it a problem?
Families are now the fastest growing segment of the homeless population
Children who are homeless are one of the growing segments of the general homeless population.
On any given night in America—the richest country in the World—1.2 million children are homeless
Average homeless families consists of a young, single mother and two children under the age of six
What Does This Mean? What will happen to these kids?
Homeless children are more likely to face hurdles in their education than their housed classmates.
Including basic necessities, these students lack school supplies when they do go to class
The McKinney-Vento Act requires school districts to stabilize children in their original schools so they can continue their education without disruption
But has It worked? Can the cycle be broken?
Realize that there is a problem • Be involved with our students-enough to reach out if there is a need • Work with local agencies and meet the needs of these students • Mostly… CARE
