  1. AIP-7 Resultsto the IIB23-24-25 Feb

  2. Architecture Implementation Pilot • What is the Architecture Implementation Pilot (AIP) • Pilots future components of the GEOSS Common Infrastructure (runs on a yearly cycle) • An interoperable environment! • AIP-7 • 24 participants (80+ organizations, incl. private sector & SME) • Strategy & Focus • Based on user needs and help decision making • Emphasis on End-User and Client apps using cross-SBA (desilofication!) resources registered in the GEOSS

  3. AIP-7 Results PresentationGEO-XI Plenary Side Event, 12 Nov 2014 • Introduction (OGC) • Service Platform for Geospatial Apps (SDI4Apps) • SmartOpenData Architecture and Environmental Linked Open Data sources (SmartOpenData) • Ocean Observations Web App (NATO CMRE and TERRADUE) • Plankton Web App (PML – INCOSE) • Capacity Building (Afriterra Foundation) • Data Sharing (IEEE, proxy OGC) • Community Portal Paper (NOAA) • Air Quality App (CITI-SENSE) • Environmental Monitoring App (COBWEB) • Open GeoSocial API (NASA) • GEOSS Water Services (UTexas et al)

  4. AIP-7 Results • Observations: • Short cycle, 50% new participants, virtual kick-off • Results • First demo’s of cross SBA’s Apps • Lots of technology emerging • But little collaboration between participants • Some (in-situ obs) services are experimental • Process for consideration in GCI by IIB? • Overall interoperability is good

  5. AIP-7 Results • Needs attention: • Tutorials on the use of standards • Use of CSW interface of GCI • Use of JavaScript API (eg from DAB) • Still unclear process for resource registration • Use of GCI in Apps is sparse • Discovery is used, but most of the times, the Url of the service is known

  6. Preparing for AIP-8 • Lessons learned from AIP-7 • In short: • AIP-8 will be more focussed on technical details than AIP-7 • Focus on App *building*, but also support building services and processing functions • Can we identify basic components? • Work more together! • Community Portals • IIB guidance?

  7. Technical Topics (preliminary) • SWE Profile for Citizen Science • For GEOSS: SWE profiles for In-Situ • Access Federation • Continuation from AIP-6 • Processing • Cloud computing and processing • Uploading f() to x, download y • Model Web and Semantic interoperability • Use of JavaScript APIs (on top of the well known service interfaces) • Need to identify a framework? • Or roll our own?

  8. Apps (preliminary) (Across SBA’s) • (Generic client) • Platform? • Plankton • Biological monitoring • Environmental monitoring • Crop monitoring • Drought & Flooding / Disaster Management • Soil • Ocean Observation • Agriculture

  9. Organization and activities: • Plenary calls • Propose once a month, more focussed • Technical calls • Weekly (initially) • Invited speakers • Specific topics • Thread/topic calls • Managed by thread lead • Setup mini-plugfests and play plugfest-bingo

  10. Knowledge capture: • Consider use of Google Doc, github, stackOverflow,… • Wiki’s and OGC Network?
