BPM System Test Approach • Phase I (APS Injector Test Stand ITS) • Install single X-Band Cavity and modified off-the-shelf down converter receiver. • BPM mounted on Piezo two-axis translation stage • Test to start Oct 05 • Phase II (APS PAR bypass line and test with PC gun) • Install three X-Band Cavities with first article down converter receivers in APS PAR bypass line and test with PC gun to start spring 06

ITS Beam Parameters • Charge per bunch . ps laser: up to ~ 1 nC with current cathode, single-bunch . ns laser: up to ~ 10 nC, 5-ns bunch train (Gaussian dist.) . tc cathode: ~ 1 mA average current over a 1.5 us • Macropulse - beam energy: . up to 6 MeV with cathode & 1 full cell powered . up to 10 MeV with both full cells powered • Spot size on final screen, at 5.5 MeV . ~ 0.75 mm rms, ps laser . ~ 4 mm rms, ns laser or thermionic cathode - emittance, tbd (hopefully will measure this week) - bunch length, tbd but probably 3 - 4 ps FWHM for ps laser

Data Acquisition Design Approach • Phase I APS ITS • Leverage off the APS Injector BPM data acquisition • Instrument three channel down converters with Struck SIS-3301-105 ADCs 14-bit, 105 MSPS • Single VME board will provides the data acquisition for 8 channels • Epics driver complete
Testing objectives • Phase I • Test prototype Cavity BPM, down converter, and data acquisition • Determine cross-talk • Generate preliminary compliance table to specification • Gain operational experience to determine if translation stage is useful, what are optimum operating parameters • Phase II • First Article Prototypes evaluated • Test three BPM separated by fixed TBD distance to determine single-shot • Complete test matrix
