grateful • To be grateful is to feel thankful for someone or something. Lucy is feeling grateful for her family. If you felt grateful for someone, what might you say to that person? Turn and talk to your partner.
grim • If something looks grim, it appears serious and forbidding. If this creepy character gave you a grim look at the haunted house, would he be smiling at you (thumbs up), or making a serious face (thumbs down).
raspy • A raspy noise sounds rough and harsh, like sandpaper scraping wood. Sandy cheered loudly for her favorite football team last weekend. Now her voice is very raspy. Turn and talk to your partner about some other things that could cause your voice to become raspy.
swarmed • If animals have swarmed, they have moved quickly and gathered in large numbers. Janet, the bee catcher, is being swarmed by thousands of bees. If a cloud of bees swarmed toward you, what would you do? Would you scream and run (thumbs up), or remain calm (thumbs down).
revelers • Revelers are people who are having fun at a lively party or celebration. This group of revelers are enjoying the Halloween Party. What kinds of behaviors would you expect from revelers? Turn and talk to your partner. Pantomime, without words or sounds, what a reveler would act like.
irresistible • Something that is irresistible is difficult to turn away from. Mrs. Smith thinks this yellow cake with chocolate icing is irresistible! What food do you find irresistible? Turn and talk to your partner.
