  1. WGISS Meeting Schedule March 2005

  2. Background circa 2001 • WGISS & SGs Participants Very Different • Different Levels Within Same Organizations • WGISS Did Not Comprehend SGs Well • Large Gap Between WGISS & SGs • WGISS More Policy & Strategy • SGs More Technical

  3. Response • Combine WGISS & SGs • Bring Policy & Technical Expertise Together • Added Benefit of Possibly Reducing Travel • Achieved • SG Reports Not Repeated • Achieved

  4. Combined Meetings • Tokyo 1996 • Sioux Falls 2001 • Toulouse 2003 • Chiang Mai 2003 • Tromso 2004 • Beijing 2004 • Argentina 2005 • Ukraine 2005 • Hungary 2006

  5. Future State • Have we have swung too far towards technology? • Have we lost WGISS strategic planning and interfacing with agency decision makers? • Maybe More Balance is Needed • Suggestions: • Revise Meeting Schedule • Solicit Former “Policy” Representative Views • The Survey • An Additional Topic

  6. Possible Meeting Schedule • SG Meeting • WGISS Meeting • Combined WGISS & SG Meeting • PROS • Maybe Interject More “Policy” Personnel • SGs Retain More Autonomy (opportunity for working sessions) • Possibility to Join With Other Meetings (ISPRS, WGCV, WGEdu, ASPRS, etc.) • CONS • Measures of Success? • Possibly 1 Additional Trip for Some • Additional host / site to be found each year
