Grading/ Assignment Expectations In Fifth Grade, assessments & grades are used to check for overall understanding of curriculum taught with the ultimate goal being mastery of all concepts. *We will be following the district grading policy. 60% = SUMMATIVE GRADES, Unit exams & tests, classroom projects, etc. 40% = FORMATIVE GRADES, Some of the key components of these will be, warm-ups, problem solving, fact fluency, interactive student notebooks, classroom participation, daily work, skill specific quiz, and At-Home practice work.
When graded tests are sent home, please review the assessment with your child. At times, a signature may be required. When in need, students will be provided with a chance to retest to demonstrate mastery of concepts. Retakes Retakes will be available for tests and quizzes with a score below 70%
At-HOME Practice/ Homework Math practice work is designed to enable students to use and check their own knowledge of a given topic. Please encourage your child to be consistent with At-Home practice work as the primary goal of this activity is to ensure every student learns!
Late Work/ Missing Work Our goal is for students to learn concepts being presented in class. The focus will be on finding ways to support students to be successful. If your child is absent, he/ she will be provided with missing work but we strongly encourage and recommend students to be RESPONSIBLE in completing and turning in missing work and come in for tutoring when necessary.
