Time Frame of delivery of MIRS to OSDPD from STAR (updated June 13th 2007): All products mentioned here are derived from the advanced 1DVAR retrieval algorithm, MSPPS products will be delivered as part of the MIRS project for phase I, II, III. Also, heritage Algorithms (regression-based) of various products would start being included in MIRS products at phases II. Because MIRS is applied to several microwave sensors with various sensor configurations. The quality of the products will be dependent on these sensors characteristics.
Tasks • Extend retrieval in precipitation conditions • Retrieval of IWP, RWP and their corresponding profiles (these profiles are not expected to be accurate) • Extend MIRS to SSMIS • Validation of products above • Continuous improvement/validation of previously delivered products (T, Q, TPW, Emissivity-based SWE SIC, Sfc Type, LST, Emissivity, etc) for both N18 and Metop-A • Further improve the web site with more validation materials, especially the raob comparisons • Improvement of the covariance matrix • Implementation of the new CRTM into the MIRS. • Emissivity-based algorithms for SSMIS initiated • ATMS TDR data in BUFR format in preparation for NPP
