  1. In the excerpt we read from Jerry Spinelli’s novel, we see an exchange between the narrator, Leo, and the title character, Stargirl, regarding the nature of gift-giving. Leo finds out that a mystery present that he received two years ago was, in fact, from his new friend, Stargirl. He wonders why she didn’t leave a note saying who it was from, giving herself the credit for the gift. Leo says it is nice to give credit, Stargirl poses the question, “is it?” Stargirl

  2. Your homework is to write the rough draft of a TBEAR body paragraph, responding to the following prompt: “Is it important to receive credit forperforminga kind act? Why or why not?” Be sure to include information from the story as evidence, as well as give analysis where you give your own opinion on that evidence. Stargirl

  3. • Your topic sentence NEEDS to be focused on the topic at hand. • Your evidence needs to be FROM THE TEXT. Give a quote that a character says, or use parts of the sentence. Don’t lump it in with background information. • Only the analysis should have you talking about your own thoughts and feelings. Don’t mention yourself anywhere else. • Your restatement should summarize the information of the paragraph. Don’t say “in conclusion” — just write what the main idea was and link your evidence back to it. General Things To Remember For TBEAR

  4. We will be using laptops and Google Docs to edit and work on these paragraphs. I would recommend typing up your rough draft in an email to yourself on your school email account so you can copy and paste it into a Google document to save time. If you do not have access to email at home… write your rough draft on binder paper, and you can type it up in class. We will go over how to use Google Docs in class on Thursday/Friday. On Thursday/Friday…
