Objectives • Modeled after LEMN: 2 academic and 2 agency leads. • Voluntary, non-regulatory, bi-national, and inclusive: US and Canada, all 8 states and Ontario, academia, agencies, private sector, NGOs, etc. • Initiated by NOAA Sea Grant, but fundable by any agency or group, and permanent. • Add value to existing programs. • Enhance collaboration and communication of research, education, and outreach results and priorities within the Great Lakes region.
Objectives • Assist the IJC Council of Great Lakes Research Managers in developing and implementing their Great Lakes Research Strategy. • Assist the Binational Executive Committee in establishing regional research priorities for the CSMI and in communicating research results
Objectives • Better coordinate academic research scientists and enhance interactions between academic and agency scientists. • Provide a single point of contact for each lake to reach all research scientists on that lake and all scientists in the region.
Objectives • Build research capacity on each lake. • Facilitate rapid response to RFPs. • Develop research information network to support GLRC.
Objectives 14. Identify and clarify research priorities and issues and the science questions to address these priorities and issues. 13. Shows how GL priorities and needs fit into US Ocean Research Priorities Plan.
Objectives 15. Facilitate development of proposals to address above priorities and issues.
GLRRIN History and Funding • Proposal developed winter 2006 • First funding 6/1/06 from Sea Grant • 1 year $125K--$25K/lake (zero for GLRRIN) • 2 year = same • 3-5 year = $50K/year--$10K/lake (zero for GLRRIN) • Current funding ends 5/31/11
