How do I write the thesis statement? Use the prompt question and re-word it into a statement that includes your own ideas. EXAMPLE PROMPT: Teachers can be important people for us. Describe one of the most important teachers in your life. Explain what qualities they have and what makes them such a good mentor. THESIS: The most important teacher in my life was Mrs. Kaplan, my 7th grade English teacher because she was supportive, optimistic, and passionate about English.

EXAMPLE PROMPT: Everyone has an activity that they enjoy doing. It might be playing an instrument or a sport. Think about what you like to do the most. Write an essay telling your classmates what you enjoy doing and at least three reasons why you like this activity so well. THESIS: An activity I enjoy doing is cooking because I love eating the food I make, it helps me relax, and it’s fun to cook with other people.

THESIS: Most celebrities make more money than they deserve because many of the celebrities aren’t even that talented, the money they earn is much more than necessary to survive, and the celebrities are usually prodigal and waste their earnings on impractical things.
