  8. What is a county collaborative? A public/private partnership that serves as the decision-making body for improving results for children and families

  9. What does a county collaborative do? • Develops, implements and evaluates a community strategic plan • Makes decisions about what results are desired • Sets priorities to achieve the results • Allocates resources • Holds itself accountable for the well-being of children and families in the community

  10. How does it measure results? • Five result areas, 26 benchmarks, and a variety of indicators of child and family well-being • A benchmark database, accessible through the Internet, collects and analyzes data

Our Milestones Progress in Family Connection communities includes: • Significant improvements in most areas of child and family well-being. • Growing evidence of a direct cause/effect between a community’s actions and improved results. • Increased political support from elected officials. • More inclusive community decision-making. • Leveraged local, state and federal funds to support community plans to achieve results.

Family Connection History • Created in 1991 • Driven by Kids Count statistics • Original public/private partnership included the Woodruff Foundation, Whitehead Foundation, Kirbo Foundation, Department of Human Resources, Department of Education, Department of Medical Assistance, and former Governor Zell Miller

  13. Family Connection History • Started with 15 original communities; has grown to 159 county collaboratives • Is the largest network of community collaboratives in the nation that are working together to improve results for children and families.

Support for County Collaboratives • FCP manages the DHR allocation for community planning and implementation based on an approved operating plan and an active collaborative. • A technical assistance and training system supports and strengthens local capacity to implement community-driven changes. • Collaboratives garner support from local, state and federal sources, both private and public.
