Multi (Mixed) Media As personal as you can make it…
WHAT are you going to do? • Dive into your experience as an “ARTIST”! • Do you doodle on your notes? • What shapes do you find yourself making? • Do you draw at home? • What topics/subject matter do you usually draw? • What are you interested in? • This is usually the BEST place to start if you aren’t sure exactly where to begin! • Don’t forget to apply concepts you have learned in class – ie, composition, balance, movement, etc!!!!!!
Student Examples Color choices Placement Overlapping
Student Examples Movement Shapes Value Layering
Student Examples Things to think about… • Masking Tape • Photo Transfer • Rubber Cement
What did you learn?? • 1 – EXPERIMENTATION • Ask questions – What worked best? How did certain media look together? • 2 – MAKE OBSERVATIONS • These media work best together. I like these shapes best. I DON’T like this part or this medium. • 3 – DECIDE • What direction do you want to go in today? • What will you NOT do again?
Project • You can take pieces from your previous mixed media • Think about sending a message through your work. • Social Issues…. What is important to you? • What are you faced with everyday? • For the next few days we are going to push, polish and complete this mixed media piece • Experiment, stay loose, and think about COMPOSITION, use of SPACE, FOCAL POINT, etc
Must Do’s (your assessment) • You MUST alter this paper – paint over areas, add new stuff in, layer over with paper, etc – get rid of white space unless it is integral part of your composition!! • All materials must be planned for and brought in (photos, xerox copies, etc – I cannot write a million passes to the media center). • You MUST use techniques we have learned and CONSIDER COMPOSITION
Remember • This is the most open ended project possible – some of you will not know what to do with it! THAT is the challenge. • All choices are YOURS and must show artistic consideration and risk-taking. Do not play “safe”. • You will be evaluated based on this, composition, and creative use of materials. • You are also evaluated on use of TIME & the consideration that goes into your work – SO WORK EVERY DAY!!!!!!! • Be creative; do not make a scrapbook page
