Sight Words Activity Sheet First step is to MAKE CARDS FOR EACH SIGHT WORD of the week and store in a baggie or envelope, then have fun! • Rainbow Write your sight words: write in pencil, trace in crayon, trace in another color crayon and trace again. • Spread the word cards out on the ground in an open space. Call out a word. Let them look around for a minute then say a direction such as: Hop! Roll! Skip! Run! Walk Backwards! Crawl! to the right one! • Mix the cards up and lay them in a stack upside-down. Have your child pick a card and say the word they pick as fast as they can. If they get it right on their own, set it to the side. If they need help, give them help and return the card to the bottom of the stack. • Lay out the cards on the table. Say one, have your child repeat what you said, then find it as fast as they can and slap it with their hand. Repeat until you have done all of them about two or three times! • Put the cards in a row. Have your child roll a die and count up from the bottom of the row the number they rolled on the die. Have them say the word they landed on. Repeat until they have landed on all of them. • Spread the word cards out on the ground in an open space. Have your child toss a small ball or toy from a certain spot and hop on one foot to retrieve it. They have to say the word closest to where the ball or toy landed. • Lay out the cards all over a table. Play “I am thinking of …”. Give your child clue about which one you are thinking of and have them find it and read it. Tell them if they are right! • Put a small glob of shaving cream or handful of sand on a paper plate. Have your child write each sight word in the shaving cream or sand. • Do you have play dough at home? Mix up the cards and lay them upside down in a stack. Have them pick a card, tell you the word, then make it from play dough. • Spread the word cards out on the ground in an open space. Have YOUR CHILD call out a word, then call out a direction such as: Hop! Roll! Skip! Run! Walk Backwards! Crawl! … to the right one! YOU have to follow the directions and go to a card. Your child has to tell you if you went to the right one! (Hint: Don’t always head to the right card!). COLOR A FALL LEAF FOR EACH ACTIVITY YOU DO! Remember to use your new sight words each week.
