  2. Halcyon Software acquired the Snapshot/TSC technology in May 2010 “ Our primary objective for our first release was to make sure the software would run on the latest IBM hardware and operating systems and fix any minor bugs. We also want to demonstrate to Snapshot TSC customers that Halcyon is totally committed to releasing new versions of the software and will continue to invest in developing this technology”. What is very evident talking to customers is that the software has a wide appeal and a loyal following. Customers comment on how easy it is to configure and the simplicity of using the tool to extract the data they really need. It’s a very useful specialist performance and capacity planning utility and an important part of the full range of Halcyon products. “ Donnie MacColl – Director of Technical Services, Halcyon Software

  3. Next release of Snapshot/TSC planned for end of Q1 2011 We are keen to hear your views from all Snapshot TSC customers and resellers on what they would like to see added to the software so these items can be included in the development roadmap. Customers can email snapshotsupport@halcyonsoftware.com  and Halcyon will acknowledge every request received.

  7. Defaultscreen overview: At first glance.. Current CPU 30 CPU Samples 24 hr CPU 24hr Disk % 30 Day Disk % Subsystems Memory & Disk Usage See at a glance: the overview of your Servers memory and disk activity. See at a glance: % disk utilization over the current 24 hour period. They will know it’s the amount used compared to what is available. See at a glance: your server’s disk utilization over the past 30 days (amount of disk used compared to what is available). See at a glance: the overview of your Subsystems system usage (How much CPU is being used, number of jobs, response times and transactions). All the information you require: no commands to enter, all with a simple glance at the Snapshot/TSC screen… “a glance is worth a thousand words” See at a glance: how your server has been running for the past 30 samples (1 hour) See at a glance: how your server has been running for the past 24 hours, and how it is running hour-by-hour compared to the average for each hour of the day based on previous history. See at a glance: the current total CPU usage and breakdown of CPU Usage.

  8. Drill Downs: You notice that the iSeries server is using more CPU than it normally does….. Double Click on one of the 2 minute samples for a breakdown of the jobs running at that time This drill-down shows the impact the user known as ASW5OWN is having on this server, all Batch and Interactive jobs by this user are combined to calculate these results. Double Click on the User Name that appears to be using the most CPU. You then double click on the hour that is of interest to you for an analysis of that hour’s CPU usage.

  9. Customization: Example 1: Example 2: A great screen created by a customer & now included as part of the package. Example 3: Include company logo for personalization. 3 Different AS/400’s Country map Remote sites

  11. Snapshot offers a growing number of plug-ins which allow you to only collect information that is relevant to your own requirements…… Remote Response: Snapshot/TSC allows data to be collected for up to 999 remote sites to calculate network response times. Remote response sends a number measured pings per minute to the defined remotes and reports back the minimum, average and maximum values as well as the number of pings sent and received. Snapshot/Response graphically displays every 2 minutes the availability of each communications line and response time delay attributable to the network provider. This tool enables you to compare performance/number of users/line speed relationships and provides you with the confidence to answer the question - is it the iSeries or the network that is causing slow response. < >

  16. Systems Management solution All modules totally integrated Snapshot/CPU         - Reports on CPU usage Snapshot/ALERT      - Sends alerts if user-defined ‘rules’ are broken Snapshot/RESPONSE - Monitors & reports on End-User Response Times Snapshot/Disk      - Monitors & reports on Disk Capacity & IO activity Snapshot/RAM        - Monitors & reports on Memory Usage Snapshot/MSGQ        - Monitors & takes action on any Message Queues Snapshot/JOBQ        - Monitors & reports on Job Queues activity Snapshot/JobMgt        - Job Management... monitors & reports on Jobs that either MUST or MUST NOT be running at specified times Snapshot/OUTQ       - Monitors & reports on Output Queues activity Snapshot/LPAR        - Monitors each LPAR as a separate server, as well as consolidating all results to give a “entire server” overview Snapshot/Top Jobs   - Reports on the Top (user defined) Jobs (by CPU usage) Snapshot/CapSim      - Allows Capacity Simulation & what-if scenarios based on CPW usage Snapshot/REPORTS - Create custom reports even from collected data Snapshot/BANDWIDTH - Monitors & reports on Communications utilisation Snapshot/ORION      - Monitors & reports on the status of the Vision Solutions ORION/VSEE/OMS HA solution

  17. Dynamic LPARs / Server Consolidation: • System Consolidation • Report on CPU usage per LPAR or as entire system • Report system usage of dynamic LPARs (uncapped systems). • Group multiple servers to better understand entire systems utilization.

  18. Dynamic LPARs Last 30 CPU samples, Showing at 13:14 CPU hit 156.9%. Blue line represents configured allocation. Eg. this system was allocated ½ a CPU. Last 30 CPU allocation showing that at the same time the system increased the allocated CPU to .78 CPU usage of this LPAR on the entire system.

  19. Basic Concepts • Data Collection • Server Side (iSeries/i5… V5R3 min level) • Samples & Records averaged data every 2 mins • Stores data for user defined durations. e.g 10 days • Only collects what you require. • Client Side (PC) • Downloads the data from the server • Keep as much/little history as you like. e.g 365 days • Catch-Up on missing data (e.g. whilst on vacation) • Displays the data graphically through views • Takes actions/alerts based on YOUR settings • Powerful systems management front-end

  20. Basic Concepts Multiple iSeries servers and/or LPARS A single (large) PC capturing the data from all 4 iSeries servers. One or more PCs running Snapshot but accessing the data stored on the main Snapshot Collection Server. … or any combination of this …

  21. Systems Management solution All modules totally integrated Snapshot/CPU         - Reports on CPU usage Snapshot/ALERT      - Sends alerts if user-defined ‘rules’ are broken Snapshot/RESPONSE - Monitors & reports on End-User Response Times Snapshot/Disk      - Monitors & reports on Disk Capacity & IO activity Snapshot/RAM        - Monitors & reports on Memory Usage Snapshot/MSGQ        - Monitors & takes action on any Message Queues Snapshot/JOBQ        - Monitors & reports on Job Queues activity Snapshot/JobMgt        - Job Management... monitors & reports on Jobs that either MUST or MUST NOT be running at specified times Snapshot/OUTQ       - Monitors & reports on Output Queues activity Snapshot/LPAR        - Monitors each LPAR as a separate server, as well as consolidating all results to give a “entire server” overview Snapshot/Top Jobs   - Reports on the Top (user defined) Jobs (by CPU usage) Snapshot/CapSim      - Allows Capacity Simulation & what-if scenarios based on CPW usage Snapshot/REPORTS - Create custom reports even from collected data Snapshot/BANDWIDTH- Monitors & reports on Communications utilisation Snapshot/ORION       - Monitors & reports on the status of the Vision Solutions ORION/VSEE/OMS HA solution

  22. What is needed… The Snapshot/TSC ‘Vision Module’ is an interface into either the Vision Solutions VSEE or ORION High Availability application, giving you the ability to monitor the link status of your replicated links from within Snapshot/TSC. This module will report on any sync issues, or bottlenecks that might be associated with the link. Please note that to use this module you must be using either the Vision Solutions VSEE or ORION High Availability application on the server running Snapshot/TSC. As for all other data within Snapshot, views may be customized to see only what is required. The purpose of this interface is to make day-to-day management of the VSEE/ORION HA solution as easy as ‘glancing at the Snapshot/TSC screen’. HA is important and requires constant monitoring to ensure any bandwidth or out-of-sync issues are reported and acted upon as soon as possible. And, just as importantly, you can now see the history and trend analysis of each HA replication-link – e.g. how far behind is the link at 2am during the end-of-day batch processing. INTERFACE

  23. Graphical Display Flexible layout Ease of use Alerting Historical Data Report Generator INTERFACE

  24. INTERFACE Customize view quickly by generating a default view: • System Level – Brief overview of each of your systems that are being replicated. • Link Level – Overview of each link in each system being replicated.

  25. INTERFACE Includeslink01andlink02

  26. INTERFACE R3PLNKnot up to date on target Link01is inactive for some reason Source/Target queues are within the specified tolerance levels (configured in the options screen) Link01has inactive objects

  27. INTERFACE This is a real-time graphical view of the WRKLNKSTS command (using API), run every two minutes but with NO IMPACT on the server. The results of each sample are stored within Snapshot/TSC to allow historical drill-down and trend analysis e.g. when do I have data-throughput issues?

  28. INTERFACE Ability to set different values for normal day usage / nightly processing. Snapshot keeps an average of the number of transactions difference for each hour of the day. You can then use this information to determine the tolerance levels for the overview screen as well as the alerts. You can also set a fixed value for the difference in transactions.

  29. INTERFACE Current transactions difference of each apply queue Number of Inactive objects Is the link active? Current reader queue difference Current router queue difference Last 24 hour (hour average) of router queue difference Current CPU usage on target Current receiver queue difference

  30. INTERFACE Drilldown to get more detailed stats

  31. INTERFACE Bandwidth throughput also increased Using other Snapshot modules we can see disk spiked during this time Using previous drilldown we can see that there was a bottleneck causing an increase in queue difference

  32. INTERFACE • Configure alerts

  33. INTERFACE • Create reports on any of the queues
