Project overview: Expected Outcomes • enhanced understanding of interrelationship: agriculture - poverty alleviation - environmental management - sustainable trade promotion • enhanced national, institutional and human capacities for undertaking strategic integrated assessment and planning for sustainable development • enhanced national coordination between ministries and districts involved in the project • enhanced capabilities of policy-makers to design and implement comprehensive policies and measures for sustainable management of the environment.

Project Process: Activities undertaken • National Steering Committee Meeting January 2005 with agenda issues: • Integrated Assessment and Planning for Sustainable Development in Tanzania: Key Issues • UNEP – IAP Project – Profile • Reviewing current Tanzania Planning Process • Preparation of the Launching Workshop to be held after the Geneva Meeting

Stakeholder Consultations/Involvement • Main emphasis on participatory efforts • Methods • Focus group discussions, group discussions, brainstorming, energizers, codes • SWOT analysis • Development of plans (defining objectives, opportunities, obstacles, indicators) • Use of Kiswahili language and trained facilitators
