Office Ergonomics Section 13 –Office Ergonomics is part of the Environmental Health & Safety Manual (PDF). This program is to assist employees in making adjustments to their computer workstations to achieve a neutral position (see picture). Employees can either read through Section 13 on their own and complete the checklist or call the Mgr. EH&S (Sara Gibson) to schedule an Ergonomic Evaluation. The Ergo. Evaluation takes about 30 minutes. If you are in pain or discomfort call for an evaluation. Departments are responsible to provide a proper ergonomic workstation (an adjustable chair and keyboard tray) upon hiring a new employee working at a computer. For existing employees that need assistance, call the Mgr. EH&S (Sara Gibson x6923). For additional info. see the OSHA website: http://www.osha.gov/SLTC/etools/computerworkstations/index.html
Indoor Air Quality Section 14 –Indoor Air Quality is part of the Environmental Health & Safety Procedure Manual-PDF. The College’s Physical Plant strives to provide a comfortable indoor air environment. Building occupants can help to maintain a good indoor air quality by doing the following: • Report poor indoor environmental conditions (e.g. stuffy air, hot or cold problems, odors, etc.) to Physical Plant x6350. • Report water intrusion into buildings as soon as possible to Physical Plant x6350. • Limit the use of products or equipment that produce odors or use solvents. If you must use such products or equipment use it in rooms that have ventilation that can exhaust such odors. • Minimize generation of dust or aerosols in the work area. • Maintain good housekeeping in work areas and break areas. Throw away garbage and old food and clean up spills promptly. • Do not bring ozone producing devices or humidifiers onto campus. Ozone producing devices have not been proven safe and humidifiers can add mold and bacteria into the air when not properly maintained. If you feel health effects due to the indoor air report these to your supervisor. If symptoms persist proceed to Health & Psychological Services. If you have concerns that are not causing health effects nor can be addressed by one of the above steps, call the Mgr. EH&S (Sara Gibson x6923).

Asbestos Section 16 –Asbestos Management is part of the Environmental Health & Safety Procedure Manual -PDF. In campus buildings built before 1980 all building materials will be Presumed Asbestos Containing Materials (PACM), unless tested to prove otherwise. The Mgr. Most of the samples have identified asbestos in the floor tile, floor tile mastic and pipe joint compound. Contact the Mgr. EH&S (Sara Gibson x6923) if you have questions about asbestos on campus or would like an awareness training session on asbestos. Physical Plant Emergency Recovery Plan The Physical Plant Emergency Recovery Plan is to assess damage and clean up/repair to campus buildings and grounds.
