  4. Facts about Potassium • Potassium is an “Alkali Metal” , a very reactive metal and is not found in nature • The element was discovered by Sir Humphrey Davy, he also discovered calcium and sodium • Recommended daily potassium intake is 4.7 g. a day

  5. Atomic Number: • The atomic number of an element is the number of protons in an atom • Atom # = # of Protons • Potassium's atomic number: 19

  6. Atomic Mass • The mass number of an atom is the number of protons plus the number of neutrons • Mass # = Protons + Neutrons • Potassium's atomic mass: 39.10
