  2. Physical Fitness is the body’s ability to function efficiently and effectively. It consists of health-related physical fitness and skill-related physical fitness, which have at least eleven different components, each of which contributes to total quality of life.

  3. Physical Benefits of Physical Activity • Heart and lungs get stronger which circulates more blood and oxygen around the body • A good ratio of fat to lean mass is obtained • Metabolic rate increases • More calories are burned because of an increase in muscle mass • Prevents illness and disease

  4. Mental Benefits of Physical Activity • Reduce anxiety • Reduce depression • Reduce stress • Increase self-confidence • Improve self-image

  5. Social Benefits of Physical Activity • Great way to meet new people • Increased confidence normally results in increased socialization • Improved communication skills through teamwork

  7. Skill-the components of physical fitness that contribute to the ability to successfully participate in sports.

  8. Agility-the ability to change the position and control the movement of the whole body

  9. Balance-The ability to keep an upright posture while either standing still or moving

  10. Coordination-The integration of eye, hand foot movement

  11. Power-Ability to do strength performance at a rapid pace

  12. Reaction Time- the amount of time needed to move once the senses signal the need to move

  13. Speed-the ability to cover a distance in a short time
