GCE A / AS Level - National • The 13 reformed subjects in England, assessed for the first time this year, showed a different pattern and outcomes are down slightly when compared to equivalent subjects in 2016. • This, in part, may be due to lower prior attainment for students taking these subjects in 2017. • The number of candidates taking AS qualifications is declining rapidly, with a 39.1% drop in entries compared to 2016 which dropped by 13.7%.

Changes to pupil exclusion rules Please see handout “Guidance on exclusions…” Questions?
Constitution Regulations Update • Edubase changes • Removal of elected governors • Code of conduct • Nolan principles • Headteacher/Governing Board relations • Disqualification See summarising handout
Removal of Elected Governors • Procedure is very clearly laid out: • Informal conversation • Agenda item at FGB meeting • Explain the charges • Right to reply • Further discussion and vote (governor leaves the room) • Ratified at second meeting not less than 14 days later • Right of appeal to independent panel * * This point suggests that we need a LA policy to be agreed with CYPLT
Code of Conduct • Our recommendation is to • Adopt the NGA code rather than waste time writing your own • Ask all governors to sign it – either annually or at their first meeting – it is then easier to insist it is followed See handout
Declaration • Governors who have been disqualified for any reason are now barred from governing for 5 years. • It is therefore wise to ask all new governors to sign a declaration that they have not been previously disqualified. See handout
