Alabama Geographic Information Executive Council Objectives • Duties – responsible for: • Strategic planning for a sustainable State program to coordinate GIS • Resolution of policy and technology issues • Coordination of interagency development for geospatial data • Coordination, direction, and facilitation of state, county, and local government GIS efforts
Alabama Geographic Information Executive Council Objectives • Duties – responsible for: • Developing an educational outreach program to coordinate geospatial training efforts • Advising the Governor, the Legislature, and local governing bodies regarding geographic information • Evaluating and determining the staffing requirements for GIS coordination • Seeking input from all stakeholders at all levels of government and the private sector
Alabama Geographic Information Program Office Objectives • Purpose • Coordinate with existing department heads, commissioners, and directors to assimilate the GIS efforts of their State agencies, departments, and commissions
Alabama Geographic Information Program Office Objectives • Duties • Act as the functional arm of the Alabama Geographic Information Executive Council • Provide administrative and technical support to the Executive Council • Concentrate statewide resources on prioritized activities • Negotiate and manage formal partner relationships • Negotiate from pooled funds and coordinate procurement
Alabama Geographic Information Advisory Committee Objectives • Purpose • Foster communication and cooperation among stakeholders • Provide guidance for the Executive Council in fulfilling the objectives of the Strategic Plan • Promote discussions of relevant GIS issues within the state • Provide expert advice to the Executive Council and the GIS community
Alabama Geographic Information Advisory Committee Objectives • Representation • The Advisory Committee shall have representation from stakeholders throughout the state to include the areas of water resources, air resources, agricultural resources, energy resources, cultural resources, land resources, mineral resources, environmental management, forestry, geology, health, local government, planning, public safety, criminal justice, social services, transportation, utilities, waste management, homeland security, and wildlife.
Alabama Geographic Information Advisory Committee Membership • Members • Members of the Advisory Committee shall be appointed by the Governor and shall continue to serve on the committee until when he or she no longer officially represents the function or serves in the capacity in which he or she was appointed. The Director of the Alabama Geographic Information Program Office shall serve as the Chairperson of the Advisory Committee.
