  2. How the Project was formed • In 1997 a group of women in the west end of Newcastle met to discuss drug and alcohol problems they had in their community • Formed a peer support group (Scotswood Women’s Family Support Group) to tackle issues and to campaign for better support for families • 2002 received funding to establish a city-wide service and re- launched as PROPS • 2007 following a tendering process, we were awarded the contract to develop a service in North Tyneside • 2012 Re-launch in July as we are now PROPS North East due to the development of the service • .

  3. What do we do? • ProvideConfidential • outreach specialist support • to: family members, carers, friends, and/or anyone else affected by drugs and alcohol. • Supporting both • young people and adults

  6. Why is it important to support and involve Carers?  Carers have first hand experience of the impact of drugs and alcohol on families and communities  They have a positive influence in helping their family member to: engage, sustain, and succeed in treatment and recovery  Carers have views about the support within services that help and those that don’t  They care about the services that are available in their own areas for themselves and others and are willing to give their time.
