Why the grants scheme matters • It facilitates projects that enhance and develop new and better approaches to achieving student learning outcomes • It fosters a culture of innovation and adaptation in Teaching and Learning • It extends opportunities for staff to be involved in the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning • It supports ideas and projects of national (ALTC) potential.

  3. Achievements 2006-2008 • No of UniSA grants awarded: 35 (allocations approx. $380,000) • No of applications: 54 • No of staff in project teams: 118 • UniSA led ALTC projects directly developed from UniSA grant projects: 4

  4. What’s on offer? • UniSA Priority Project Grants (2 x $25,000 each) • The priority areas for 2009 are: • The affective domain of teaching • Standards-based assessment

  5. What’s on offer? (cont.) • UniSA Small Scale Grants • Development grants (Up to 10 x $5,000-$10,000 each) • Development Grants are designed to promote small-scale innovation and to develop good practice in learning and teaching. • Pilot Project Grants (Up to 4 x $5,000-$10,000 each) • Pilot Project Grants are designed to enable successful applicants to develop a L&T project to the point where a well-grounded application can be submitted for consideration under one or other of the ALTC Grants Scheme programs. Pilot Projects will be designed to scope an appropriate project concept and/or establish proof of concept and/or collect the data necessary for the proposal of the projected project to Carrick.

  6. Who can apply and by when? • Applications are to be made by Project Teams, comprising a minimum of two eligible academic staff members. • Available to continuing and contract academic staff. Casual and adjunct academic staff, and professional staff are encouraged to participate on Project Teams. • DEADLINE: • Grant applications close at 4.00pm on Wednesday 9 September 2009

What sort of approach is required? • A sound concept with: • a clear overall plan for achieving the project aims; that has • potential for uptake beyond the immediate context; and that will • result in significant and measurable outcomes; and which • integrates dissemination strategies at all stages. • See website for definitions: • http://www.unisa.edu.au/teachinglearning/goodteaching/grants/unisa/definitions.asp
