Hong Kong Educational CAD/CAM Network Project Industrial Centre The Hong Kong Polytechnic University Quality Education Fund The Hong Kong Institute of Education
Project Aims • to facilitate the teaching and learning of CAD/CAM in schools; • to develop on-line CAD/CAM teaching and learning resources; • to facilitate D&T teachers to provide an effective CAD/CAM training to their students; • to enable students to enjoy a personal experience of designing and making high quality products using CAD/CAM technology via facility sharing.
Activities • Development of the HK Educational CAD/CAM Network • Development of a Project Website • Development of a Resource/Data Bank • Development of CAD/CAM Instructional Materials • Professional Development Programmes for Teachers • CAD/CAM Learning Experiences for Students and Student Award Scheme • CAD/CAM Student Design Competitions and Exhibition

Remote ManufacturingVia Video Conferencing/Internet Technology Step 6 The finished component is evaluated, shown to the student and then sent back to the school. Step 1 A student creates design on CAD/CAM Software on a PC (stand alone or networked). 6 1 5 Step 2 Student and teachers outside the HKIEd participate in a live video conference with staff at the RC, TSTC, or CDTC. Step 5 The student’s design is manufactured on a CNC Machine whilst student views via the Remote Video Camera. 2 4 Step 3 The student’s design is downloaded to the RC where it is discussed and amendments made, where necessary. 3 Step 4 The CNC File containing the student’s design is created by the RC, TSTC, or CDTC.
